Mozart's Early Years

Mozart was born in Salzburg, Austria on January 27, 1756. His father Leopold was a musician and at a very young age, Mozart showed an amazing musical talent. When he was five years old he knew how to play the harpsichord and the violin. He was so good, he was invited to perform for the Viennese Royal court when he was six years old. From the ages 7 to 10, Mozart and his sister Maria Anna toured Europe to play for different kings, emperors, and other royalty. People would commission him to create and play music, and by that, he received a lot of money at a young age.

This map of Austria was made in the 1750s by Matthaus Seutter and shows an accurate representation of the place where Mozart called home. In 1781, Mozart moved to Vienna, Austria, one of Europe's Musical Cities, and was a great place for rising musicians. Mozart moved to Vienna probably so he could pursue his dream of being the greatest musician, and to gain riches by continuing to make wonderful music.

This was Mozart's final symphony and when it was found many years after Mozart's death by people studying Mozart. Unanimously, the people studying Mozart agreed that the 41st symphony was the greatest piece of music written by Mozart and it was therefore named after the Roman king of the gods, Jupiter.
