THE RACE IS ON!

Several students in Emile MIlam's AP Chemistry Classes got in groups of 3 - 4 people to experiment in the field of Thermochemistry. Each group performed a Calorimetry lab corresponding to making their very own handwarmer!

GET WITH THE PROGRAM, consist of the Calorimetry Lab we were asked to perform as well as our own procedure we created to make our very own hand warmer, Lavaroxs.

Trial and Error, but Lava still Roxs!!

In our lab in AP Chemistry, we created a hand warmer that would be safe, reliable, and cost efficient. In the beginning, we did a “test run” by calculating calorimetry with the use of the solution Magnesium Sulfate so we could understand heat transfer. In the process we had excess heat which resulted in abnormal results. What we gained from this experiment was being to experience, understand, and create a hand warmer by experimenting with different solutions and determining which one would be the most thermodynamically in creating a hand warmer. From this experience we have learned what makes a product suitable and thermodynamic. We have obtained the knowledge to be more accurate and precise in our studies and experiments. This experiment has given us the opportunity to be able to create and explore the common technology.
