Student College Fair

On Friday November 19th the Senior class hosted the first student led College Fair at TGS. Seniors spent time researching various college and other post secondary opportunities in their English 12 class. Seniors then made posters for the presentation to underclassmen at TGS. They passed along information about what it takes to go to college and what is needed to attend various programs across the USA. Grades 9-11 were able to attend the fair to learn about various programs and begin thinking about their possible future endeavors!

Have you turned in your family's free and reduced lunch application?

It is essential for every family to complete the Free/Reduced Lunch application every year. This information directly affects school funding and resources.

Click here to print the application. After you complete the application it can be mailed or scanned, OR dropped off at the front desk. Front Office hours are Monday-Friday from 7:30am-4:00pm.

Crew is a core practice at The Graham School that is essential to bringing our community together by allowing for relationship building, promoting shared understandings through equity and inclusion, and building positive connections with peers. Crew is also a vehicle for developing and supporting students socially, emotionally and academically. During these challenging times, Crew is perhaps more important than it has ever been for our community. Last year we expanded Crew work to include Family Crew, with intent to engage and connect our families through our culture of Crew.

This year we are hosting monthly Family Crew sessions to engage and connect with our families. Each Family Crew session will have a specific focus related to the work we do at The Graham School, such as Crew, Mindfulness, Restorative Practices, Social-Emotional Learning, etc. The format of the meetings will be determined each month as we keep an eye on the evolving COVID situation in Franklin County and continue to prioritize the safety of students, families, and staff.

CREW 101

What is Crew? Why do we do it? When is it? Why do students have to attend? Here is a quick rundown of all things Crew and why it is so important at The Graham School!

All students at The Graham School are enrolled in a Crew. Crew is a required course that meets M-TH after lunch. Students receive a grade for Crew and are expected to attend regularly and engage in Crew activities. With all that is going on in our world today- a global pandemic, political turmoil, and economic strife, Crew is perhaps more important than it has ever been for our community. We believe that if there has ever been a need to wrap around our students- our Graham family, it is now and it is urgent.

The structure of Crew provides for consistent academic progress monitoring. Crew is also essential to bringing our community together by allowing for relationship building, promoting shared understandings and positive connections with peers, and encouraging all community members to become Crew, not passengers. At The Graham School we make a point to ensure that all students are known well and supported by adults. Crew helps make this happen!

Thanksgiving Boxes

TGS partnered with Crossroad Church again this year to provide Thanksgiving boxes to support families. This year Crossroads provided 50 boxes, that's about a quarter of our population! Additionally, TGS provided the opportunity for ALL teachers to team-up and deliver to families this year. During a professional development day in November, teachers in teams of 3-4 drove all around the city to meet the needs of our families. In appreciation, a volunteer from Crossroads provided individual thank you bags to all of our staff! We are grateful to Crossroads with whom we have partnered with for 3 years.

EL Education

Our partnership with EL Education empowers our teachers to unleash the potential of their students. EL Education is built on ten design principles that reflect the educational values and beliefs of Kurt Hahn, founder of Outward Bound and EL Education. These principles also reflect the design's connection to other related thinking about teaching, learning , and the culture of schools. The Graham School's habits of learning have grown out of the design principles: Self-Direction, Perseverance, Teamwork & Collaboration, Service & Stewardship, and Adventure & Risk.

Title 1

TGS is a School-wide Title 1 program, enabling us to receive Federal Funds to ensure that our students receive the support they need to reach and exceed grade level goals in reading and math. We welcome parent involvement in planning, review and improvement of Title 1 programs. Please contact Debbie Addison at addison.2@thegrahamschool.org with any questions.
