Aiming to Keep You Informed
January 25, 2019
From the Office
This week, our 8th Grade Girls & Boys Basketball teams visited Kindergarten classrooms at both Erickson and DuJardin. The 8th graders read and discussed books with the Kindergartners and ate lunch in the cafeteria with several grade levels. We could tell it was a great experience for all when we saw a video clip of the 8th graders dancing with the Kindergartners. Our student-athletes made us very proud to be WARRIORS and represented our school extremely well! Thank you to Mrs. Siegert and Mr. Buchholz for organizing and leading this wonderful program.

Parents: The 5 Essentials Survey is live and we would love your feedback!
The Illinois 5 Essentials Student Survey is administered by the Illinois State Board of Education and measures schools in 5 key areas: Effective Leaders, Collaborative Teachers, Involved Families, Supportive Environment, and Ambitious Instruction; it should take about 10 minutes to complete and is phone friendly! We really value your feedback and we encourage you to complete the survey by clicking the link above and type in "Dupage" and "Westfield Middle School". Thank you in advance for your time! Students and staff will also be sent a survey link in January. Click Here for the Survey.
Please see this letter regarding information on students participating in the Illinois 5 Essentials Student Survey; we value our students' voices and would love to hear their feedback! Students will be provided time at school to complete this survey. Click Here for the Survey.
Innovation Night
You will soon begin to hear your students talking about their Innovation Night projects. Last year we piloted a "Genius Hour" through Acceleration; this year we are going to build on that experience and students will be able to choose a problem or question they are interested and passionate about, research it and create or propose solutions. This will be a longer project and the culmination will replace our traditional "Portfolio Night" from years past. Portfolios will still be curated and students can share them with parents at home.
During Innovation Night students will share their project with parents, family, and community members. Attendees will be invited in to walk around, listen to student presentations and ask them questions! The tentative date for Innovation Night at Westfield is May 16th! We are looking forward to watching students navigate these problems and ideas while learning critical life-long skills!

Remind101 and Verizon: Fee Issue
This is a very brief statement about what is going on between the two companies; however, you can still receive Remind101 notifications as a Verizon Customer by downloading the Remind101 App and enabling notifications and you can also set up Remind101 to push email notifications instead of text messages and avoid any fees from Verizon. Please see the information below as we continue to keep an eye on this situation.
