Note from the Principal
Good Afternoon Parents,
I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the opportunity to meet with your student's teacher this week to find out more about where your child is in their learning and see what learning goals they have for the year.
Kindness Campaign
We have launched our kindness campaign this week. This week the students are going to hear the book Spaghetti in a Hotdog Bun, by Maria Dismondy, read aloud by me. This book allows our classroom teachers to lead discussion during their morning meeting about being kind and how to approach bully behavior if students are ever in that situation. In the month of October we are focusing on being "Purposefully Kind" and staff and students are passing out kindness keys to celebrate and recognize when students are being kind. I am sure we will have a lot of opportunities to share with you all of the ways Buena Vista Students are show kindness and caring.
In addition, I am launching a "Upstander Ambassador" small student group. I will train and work with a small group of 4th and 5th students to be Upstanders (not bystanders) when faced with a situation where a student may be bullied or feel lonely. Once they are trained they will work with other students to train them and support students in class and at recess. My hope is that this group continues to grow and grow.

Today was make-up day for student pictures. If you need to order, please go to this link for Dorian photography.
Shortened Day
Thursday, October 7th; and Friday, October 8th we will have a shortened school day---Kindergarten and TK will dismiss at 11:30 and 1st-5th grades will dismiss at 12:25. Please plan ahead!
Please continue to be safe and take care.
Respectfully,

Outdoor Movie Night was a Success!!
REMEMBER! We have also started our PTA Membership Drive!
Do you want to know what is happening first at Buena Vista? Do you want to be involved in your student’s school activities? Do you want to help build a school community at Buena Vista?
If so you should join our Buena Vista PTA!
IT'S ONLY $15 TO BECOME A MEMBER!!!
We are hoping to get as many families involved this year as possible to join our PTA. To support this, Mrs. Gramlick and the PTA are hosting a Membership Drive. Our goal, over the next two weeks, is to get at least 60% membership from every classroom. (We are trying for a 10% increase from last year.)
Classes who reach this goal by Friday, October 8th with get an invitation to bring their lunch to eat with Mrs. Gramlick in the private grove along with a popsicle treat.
Explore the Arts and Express Yourself!
Do you enjoy art, music, and dance, or have an interest in writing, producing films, and taking photos? Then join us and have fun unleashing your inner artist with PTA Reflections! This year's theme, "I Will Change the World By...," calls for your own unique interpretation through the arts. Submit your online entry form here. Remember to also include a picture of your entry, or attach the video of your music, dance, or film. Entries are due by October 22nd.
For inspiration and to learn more, please visit the Reflections virtual art gallery at https://www.pta.org/home/programs/reflections/awards. Buena Vista Lost and Found!!!
Fundraising Update
Many of you have helped spur us towards the finish line with a total of $568,865 in donations as of September 29. Thank you to those that have supported our public schools! If you haven’t donated yet, jump in and help make a difference for our students. The programs and classes funded through WCEF are not possible without your support.
Every month, we must raise $60,000 to remain on target and reach our goal of $1.3 million by June 30, 2022. There are many options to give—make a one-time gift, set up monthly payments, have your employer match your donation, gifts of stock, become a Business Partner, and more. Take action today.
This Weekend: Fall Recycling Event
Saturday, October 9, swing by the WCSD parking lot from 10am-4pm to recycle your e-waste and get old documents (securely!) shredded. You’ll be supporting our schools while cleaning up around your home! Recycling fees are based on size and shredding is $10 per banker’s box. A percentage of fees collected come back to WCEF.
It's Back: Forma Gym's Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot
The tradition continues—join us for Forma Gym’s Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot! Join your school "team" and meet at the Las Lomas High School track for a trot to remember. Your registration benefits our schools and community, thanks to Forma Gym’s $5 give-back to WCEF.
