EDS Fourth Graders are Published Authors and Illustrators
Our fourth grade students turned into a team of writers and illustrators to become published authors this year.
The students created their book “Presidential Pets” by researching Presidents and their pets. They improved their writing skills and explored government all while creating their book. Upon the arrival of the hardcover books, the 4th graders celebrated with a “Publishing party” and “Book Signing”. Each student showed off their work by reading their published piece to the class and offering signatures to those who purchased a book.
Recently, Scholastic Studentreasures chose Ms. Ibeck’s class book as a National Finalist in the National Book Challenge. If chosen as the winner, her class will receive an award, be featured on the Studentreasures website and have their book sent to schools across America.
Faculty Spotlight - Mrs. Heidi Fisher
THE BASICS
Experience: Second grade teacher at Bishop Noland Episcopal Day School for five years, twentieth year teaching
Degrees: B.S. in Special Education/Early Childhood Education; Masters in Educational Leadership
Married: Billy Fisher
Parent of: Julee Fisher, fourth grader at Bishop Noland Episcopal Day School
TEACHER AND MOTIVATOR
Mrs. Fisher is not just a teacher, she is a motivator. She motivates her students to reach out of their comfort zone and try new books or new projects. She motivates her students to try their best and praises their efforts and successes. You can often hear Heidi in the Commons from her classroom giving high fives, "you go-girls" or a big round of applause. She has a great understanding of the students as little people. Walking through the halls she is often having conversations that involve students' weekend plans or new toys.
HEIDI'S WORDS
Heidi says that she loves teaching because of the kids. They are curious, enthusiastic, and intelligent. "They help my brain to grow each day!" She says she loves teaching at EDS because of the freedom to bring unique learning experiences to the students. "I was able to implement the Tasty Tuesday writing program, our funeral for overused words, Adjective Runway, the goods and services fair, court case for The Three Little Pigs, etc."
HEIDI'S FAVORITE QUOTE
"They may forget what you said, but they never forget how you made them feel."
Alumni Highlight - Marshall Simien, III
Marshall Simien III, EDS Class of 2009, is readying himself for graduation this spring from LSU. Come May, he will enter the world with a degree in computer engineering and in true EDS fashion he could not be more prepared. But before we look forward, we must look back.
After graduating from EDS, Marshall attended St. Louis Catholic High School where he served as the drum major in the marching band for all four years. He was also recognized as an all-state saxophonist. Upon enrolling at LSU he continued with his music and was a member of LSU's Golden Band from Tigerland.
He has already accepted a position with Maverick Technologies, a Rockwell Automation company. Fortune Magazine recently ranked Maverick as one of the country's top "50 Best Workplaces for Flexibility." The Silicon Review Magazine recognized Maverick in 2016 as one of the “50 Best Companies to Watch.” Its parent company, Rockwell Automation, is a Fortune 500 industrial automation leader. Marshall will work at Maverick Technologies’ Chicago, Illinois office. Marshall’s focus will be the design and manufacture of automated systems and robotics.

EDS Eagle's Sports News
Football: Our football team did a great job this year. Both groups had new coaches and showed a lot of improvement throughout the season. Our football team was led by Head Coach Sal Ange along with assistants Andre Ange, Dylan Kay, Kurt Coleman and Jeremy Boudreaux. Our boys battled injuries throughout the season and ended the season playing nine man football. The amount of effort and heart shown by our boys is exactly what an EDS Eagle represents. We salute our 8th grade players Tylar Joseph, Miller Leach, Owen Daigle, Preston Williamson and Niko Wukovits.
Volleyball: Volleyball was led by newly named Head Coach Lee Bride and assistant coach Maggie McBride. We had an amazing number of girls come out this year and the future looks bright for this volleyball program. We send off several 8th graders including Arden Turner, Mallory LeBleu, Megan Grubb, Olivia Crain, Shadia Mustafa, Tyler Brink and Emma Nixon. We look forward to next season!
