Dear HAWK Families,
We shared the following information about school safety with you all back in September. We are sharing it again as a reminder of all of the ways we work to keep our Hawk family safe!
* Locked doors - All of our doors that lead to the interior of the building remain locked at all times and are not propped open. Interior doors are locked at all times, as well.
* Visitors to the building - You will notice that when a visitor buzzes at the entry, we ask them to share their name and their purpose for the visit prior to admittance into the school. Visitors check-in with their ID at each visit.
* Materials/Delivery drop offs - You may have noticed a new delivery basket in our vestibule. Deliveries and parent drop-offs can be left there and we will be sure to deliver. We have post-its available to label items.
* Safety drills - Our school practices drills monthly. We do this to be proactive and empower our Hawks to feel prepared should we have a fire, tornado, or other event that would put stress on our environment or the safety of our people. Our staff reviews situational and emergency drills and safety protocols on a consistent basis throughout the year.
* Arrival/Dismissal - We post approximately 5 - 10 adults at the front of our building and main parking lot each day at arrival and dismissal. Within the building we also have multiple staff assigned to supervisory posts during arrival and dismissal.
* Releasing students - Only adults listed in Powerschool have permission to pick up their student.
* Identification - Our LSR7 staff wear identification badges.
*Trainings - Staff are trained in emergency response as well as active shooter training.
* HGE Emergency Operations team. This HGE staff team is the command unit should the school ever experience a weather or situational crisis. Each member of the team has a role and responsibilities. The Emergency Operations Team meets throughout the year to review protocols and practice scenarios.
Finally, our staff are trained to be observant and be proactive when anything or anyone causes concern. We choose to err on the side of caution for the safety and security of our staff and students.
Thank you for helping us keep our school a safe place for our Hawk family!
Proud to be a Hazel Grove Hawk!
