From Mr. Clemente
Dear Winter Park Band families,
A hearty congratulations and thank you to everyone who made yesterday's Virtual Door-2-Door a success! A special thank you to the Band Council of Charlie Schmitt, Emma Spencer, Maddie Visconti, Benjamin Johnson, Madelyn Kerst, Zachary Asarnow, and Blake Cox for setting up, hosting, and managing the Live Stream on Youtube which you can re-watch by clicking here. Thank you especially to Mac Collins for lending his live streaming expertise and equipment to help make transitions run smoothly! Thank you to Heather Ribaric for putting together a very informative step-by-step process for posting and sharing a call for donations on social media. Thank you to all of our Band families and anyone else who posted, shared, and spread the word and help make this fundraiser as successful as it could be!
Especially well done to the students who provided live performances for the stream, including Emma Spencer, Megan Bradley, Lily Ioffredo, and Emily Strickland (flute quartet), Kaia Leavitt, Dominiq Valentin, Hannah Arnold, and Mac Collins (saxophone quartet), Kaia Leavitt and Dominiq Valentin (alto saxophone duet), and Charlie Schmitt, Charlie Storch, Kaia Leavitt, Dominiq Valentin, and Adam Maulfair (jazz combo).
I should have a total from this weekend's fundraising efforts at some time tomorrow morning. A separate email will be sent through Charms as soon as I receive the report from SchoolPay. Keep in mind that the link will be open until February 19. There is still plenty of time for donations to be made!
This week is an exciting week for the Winter Guard as they prepare for their first performance of the year at FFCC premiere! The winter show from the Guard is really something to watch each year, and I hope you get a chance to see the show at some point this year either virtually or in person.
I would like to direct everyone's attention to the week of April 5 - 9 on the Band Calendar. To help give our students another opportunity for performance this Spring, since we have missed out on so many, Mr. Smith and I have decided on holding Guest Conductor Workshops for all 3 jazz ensembles and concert bands. Please add these dates onto your family's calendar and check to see if there are any unavoidable conflicts. If conflicts exist, please contact both directors immediately.
You should continue to hear lots of practicing this week from your students while they are at home with Solo & Ensemble performances upcoming at the end of the month! Please encourage them to sign up for extra help, or if only to get another run through in front of people under their belt.
Have a great week!
Mr. Clemente

From the Band Booster President
Week of February 7, 2021
Hello everyone. What a great virtual door 2 door event yesterday! Thank you to all of the students who participated, generated excitement, and planned the live stream. The music and pictures were so much fun to hear/see. Thank you to everyone who spread the word on social media and via email, too! Please continue to do so, as the link will remain open for a bit. We appreciate all of your excitement and help.
Thank you to the parents who came to the booster meeting last week. Stay tuned for a date after spring break for our next meeting. There will be positions open on the Band Booster Board (including provisions, a uniform helper, program ads and sales, and communications), so if you would like be a bit more involved, please reach out to any booster board member to find out more about what each position entails.
As always, please keep an eye on the Charms calendar for updates. Thank you everyone for all you do. Have a great week.
Natalie Storch

SOLO & ENSEMBLE MPA - VIRTUAL/PRE-RECORDED - 3rd Quarter Project
The schedule for Solo & Ensemble event recordings is now available. All students should write down their recording date and time on their solo and/or ensemble sheet music as a reminder, and enter their time into both their personal and their family's calendar.
Solo & Ensemble Performance Recording Schedule
- All events will be pre-recorded.
- Students will then meet their adjudicator via video chat at a scheduled time on either Friday February 26 or Saturday, February 27 to receive feedback on their performance.
- If students wish to receive a rating for their performance(s), all rules printed in the FBA Handbook. For example, solos performed for a rating must have a piano accompanist.
- All students will still need to have an original copy of the work they are performing. Details on how to show proof of an original copy will be forthcoming from FBA.
Please click the link below for links to the FBA Solo & Ensemble Music List, sign up sheets, music purchase requests, etc.

PRIVATE LESSONS
Unlike a full band rehearsal experience, studying with a private teacher focuses in on the student’s individual needs. Students who study privately once a week from a professional musician are usually those who excel and find Band more enjoyable. These students frequently earn positions in honor groups like All-State and All-County, and make entry into our more advanced bands like Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble I. Some even go on to earn college scholarships, even if they are not majoring in music!
By following the link below, you will find a list of local private teachers. This list is not exhaustive, and there may be other individuals who are not on the list. If you know a private teacher who should be added (or would like to be deleted), please contact Mr. Clemente at michael.clemente@ocps.net.
