Reading

The Superkids' next activity as part of their club was to make gifts for the animals in the pet hospital. They missed Golly while his paw was healing at the pet hospital, so Frits thought they could make gifts for all the animals. The Superkids were all very excited to get the best gift when they vet delivered a healthy Golly back to his friends.

Lily is the newest Supernoodle. She has created a make-believe adventure for the club. They are dressed up in costumes and wigs pretending to be Wagwags from another planet. They wiggle, wave, and wink as they go off to explore many different planets. While we are enjoying this adventure with the Superkids, we are learning and using many different adjectives to describe the new planets. We also identified synonyms, discussed proper nouns, and continued to develop our reading comprehension.

We will finish the latest Superkids' Club book on Monday. When it comes home, please ask your child to read the stories to you!

Math

In math, we have continued to build our addition and subtraction fact fluency. This week we spent some time discussing the ways to make 10. As students begin to memorize these facts (0+10, 1+9, 2+8, 3+7, 4+6, 5+5, 6+4, 7+3, 8+2, 9+1, and 10+0), they will develop better number sense. For our question of the day we had to add 16+4. A few students noticed that 6+4=10, which allowed them to quickly realize that we had two groups of ten. They solved an addition fact beyond what they are expected to complete in kindergarten very quickly due to their number sense and understanding of place value! I was so impressed!

Writing

As we finished our How To books, students got a chance to read their books to their classmates! It was so much fun to take the time to share our work!
