The Principal's Desk At Sycamore
February 23, 2020
Dr. Crystal Cooper, Principal
Sycamore Parents,
Last week we ended our last round of formal conferences for the school year. I hope that you all were able to meet your child's teacher and learn more about their academic and social progress. If you weren't able to visit us, please don't hesitate to call your child's teacher or make an appointment for a visit. Your involvement whether through attendance at meetings, school workshops, supporting homework and/or reviewing the Parent Portal, build an anchor of student success. We love to have you in our building and appreciate your investment in their learning at Sycamore.
Also, thank you very much for supporting our book fair! Mrs. Adames, was overjoyed with seeing so many of you in our building. We have just 3 more days, so please make sure that you support these last days. We have some exciting books and goodies to purchase!
We also have a little over 40 chocolate boxes left! Would you help us largest fundraiser by selling a box of World's Finest Chocolate? The proceeds help us with all of our school functions, end of year activities and teacher resources. Please call or send in the order sheet for a box or 2! We don't want to send back any boxes this year! Let's go Sycamore!!
Thank you for your outpouring of love and support for our Andriux! Some of you have asked about ways to support and we truly appreciate that. I am collecting your emails and questions and checking in with mom. As you can imagine, this is a difficult reality to comprehend so quickly, so your patience is appreciated. I am sure that support will be welcomed as the recovery ensues for our 5th grader.
We are also on our way to charging up for our PTA 2020-2021 Executive Board, where we will need to have parents sign up to represent our PTA for the following positions: President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary. We hope that you will take on this rewarding opportunity.

What is i-Ready? K-5 Student Learning Website that WORKS!
- i-Ready is an online program for reading and/or mathematics that will help your child’s teacher(s) determine your child’s needs, personalize their learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows your teacher(s) to meet your child exactly where they are and provides data to increase your child’s learning gains. i-Ready consists of two parts: Diagnostic and Instruction.
- The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s needs. Each item a student sees is individualized based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade, but instead to determine how best to support your child’s learning.
- i-Ready Instruction provides students with lessons based on their individual skill level and needs, so your child can learn at a pace that is just right for them. These lessons are fun and interactive to keep your child engaged as they learn.

School Communication-Changes
We miss this feature, as it was a great way to communicate with parents and our community. However, we hope to keep you informed on our website, Principal's Desk, and social media pages.
We have received approval to utilize Class Dojo, so you will be getting correspondence from your child's teacher if they use this format for communication.

Friendly Reminders
- All visitors will be asked at the door who they are and their reason for entering the building by our front desk clerk. Always have your ID ready to show every time. Vanessa Camacho-Chapparo is our new front desk clerk and is happy to join our team. Please be patient with our new district requirement that ensures a stronger and safe environment for our school community.
- We will begin our morning announcements at 8:45 AM daily and ask that all car riders are in their seats ready to begin their day prior to 8:45 AM.
- We are going to use Mypaymentsplus for all of our monetary transactions besides small fundraisers throughout the year. Please make sure that you sign up for this with the information below.
- We are infusing social emotional learning with our PBIS discipline program. Every classroom will have morning meeting daily where they will greet one another, share something based on a focused topic, engage in an activity and end with a morning message. This 10 minute activity every day ties to our AKS, but also helps to start the day off positively. Ask your child about the amazing experience.
