New Cafeteria Changes
Take some time to ask your children about our new lunchtime guidelines and table baskets!
We have been working super hard this month with our students and staff to establish some new procedures. We know that our new system will make for a safe, smooth and relaxing lunchtime.
Come visit us for lunch to check things out! You'll notice this poster (below) now hanging in our cafeteria. We would appreciate all visitors setting a fantastic example for our students as well, and hope to see you soon!
Congratulations, Ms. Brittany Knoup!!
Our wonderful front office secretary, Ms. Brittany Knoup, has received the Forsyth County Schools' monthly Employee of the Month Award for October! We are so proud of her! This program recognizes the outstanding achievements of district employees. Ms. Brittany takes such good care of our staff, students and parents and is so deserving of this great honor. She will receive her award from Superintendent Bearden and the school board in two weeks at the monthly school board meeting. The next time you see Ms. Brittany make sure to tell her congratulations!!

We Salute our Veterans! Celebration Planned for Nov. 12

Those may be sent in with your student or attached electronically to the RSVP form. All RSVPs and pictures are due by Monday, November 5.
A light breakfast will be served for veterans and their families in the auditorium beginning at 9:00 am and the program will begin at 9:30 am.
Special thanks to our Partner in Education, Trisha Hoyes with Berkshire Hathaway Realty (below), for sponsoring this event for our school.
Music News - Please Read
We are getting ready to start our recorder unit! All 4th and 5th grade students are required to purchase a recorder which they will begin bringing to music class. Most 5th grade students should still have their recorders from last year, but if they need to purchase a new one they may do so at this time. If you know that you already purchased a recorder for your student at open house, you do not need to do anything further.
WHO: All 4th and 5th grade students
WHAT: Recorders ($10 for recorder/neck strap, $8 for just the recorder)
WHEN: All payments for recorders will be due by Friday, November 9th.
WHERE: All payments for recorders will be made through MyPaymentsPlus. (This is the same website that you pay for lunch, just go to MyPaymentsPlus.com and you should see the option to purchase a recorder)
**On MyPayments Plus, there will be an option to order a recorder with or without a neck strap (which will change the price). The neck strap is not required; it just makes holding the recorder slightly easier for students. If you have any questions about using MyPayments Plus, or about recorders in general, please feel free to contact me at any time.

We are halfway to our goal!
As you go through your closets looking for warm gear, set aside any coats that your family has outgrown or no longer wears. We are having a coat drive from Nov. 12 -16. The coats being collected will make a difference in our community. Also - mark you calendar for Fri., Nov. 16 as we come together to sort the coats and make cards for the recipients. It is our way of helping others this year. Will you help us?
We are so excited about the Holiday Shop, which runs from Nov. 27-30. Whimsy Daisy, a local vendor, will offer items ranging from $1 to $20. Visit the Holiday Shop as a family on Nov. 27 from 6- 8 pm and take a picture with Santa.
Volunteers are needed to make this event successful. We welcome parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles....anyone who would like to help. Volunteers can decorate, help children shop, bag gifts, or read to students who are not shopping. To sign up to volunteer, please click here. If you have any questions, you can email Krissy Pierce.
Amazon Smile Program
Did you know that if you type smile.amazon.com and choose BCES PTO as your nonprofit that we get a small percentage of your purchase back to our school? Since June 2018, we have received $38.80 from Amazon Smile. Every time you shop at Amazon, be sure to type SMILE. before amazon. Be sure to keep this in mind as you begin your holiday shopping. Every little bit helps!

Additional Resources for Parents
Parent Toolkit is a one-stop resource developed with parents in mind. It’s produced by NBC News Education Nation and supported by Pearson and includes information about almost every aspect of your child’s development, because they're all connected. Healthy, successful children can excel in many areas – in the classroom, on the court, and in their relationships with peers and adults. Our advice also covers important topics for navigating life after high school.” http://www.parenttoolkit.com/grade-levels/elementary-school
Around Our Community
How to Transition from Elementary to Middle to High School
Mark your calendars now for November 5th, from 6:30 – 7:30 pm at the Denmark HS auditorium, and join other parents in our Denmark Community for an informative session hosted by the Denmark Community Administration about successful transitions through the different levels of school in the K – 12 educational journey. Administrators from our Denmark community elementary and middle schools, and Denmark HS, will share information about what your kids have to look forward to at each school level and how to help them be successful and thrive as they begin their journey at each level. Whether you have a 2nd grade child, or a 7th grader, or a HS freshman, or one anywhere in between, it should be an informative evening for all! Childcare will be provided for students K-5.
