School-wide Read Aloud and Song
Please read Sing A Song to your class. In music class, students will learn "Lift Every Voice and Sing." Please practice the song with your class so that they are ready to perform on February 12th. The song is linked below.

Throughout the month teach your students about Black musicians across all genres by reading texts and listening to the playlists linked in the resource below.
Week Two: 2/10-2/14
Author Visit: Kelly Starling Lyons
Author Kelly Starling Lyons will visit Ephesus on Wednesday, February 12th, the 120th anniversary of the first time "Lift Every Voice and Sing" was sung. She will discuss Sing A Song and other books she has written. She will present to 3-5 classes from 10:45-11:30, K-2 classes from 12:30-1:15, and Boys 2 Men and My Squad from 1:30-2:15. Thank you for being flexible and making adjustments to your schedule to accommodate these programs. Use this presentation to teach your students more about Kelly Starling Lyons.
Door Decorating Celebration
Use your door to share your students' learning about a Black musician or a musical genre. Doors should be complete by Friday, February 14th.

African American Read-In
Guest readers will come to your classroom to share books by African American authors and/or featuring African American characters. The schedule is linked below. New readers are being added all of the time so be sure to check back often.
