Peek at the Week
March 11th - March 15th
Weekly Update
Good Morning,
We hope that everyone had a great weekend. We are looking forward to a busy week. This week in reading we will continue to learn about how we can be responsible citizens in our community. We will also learn about different communities around the world, and how students work together to create a caring community. In our phonics lessons we will continue to learn about R controlled vowels. This week we will focus on ER/IR/UR words. These patterns will be reinforced during whole and small group lessons, and as we started last week the class will not be receiving a spelling list but we will do a dictation on Friday.
In math the class did a wonderful job on their module 13 assessments! We have moved on to module 14 which continues to focus on using drawings to represent addition and subtraction equations. The class will work on identifying the correct operation to use when solving word problems.
Social studies lessons will focus on wants and needs. Communities are created to meet our common needs, giving us a sense of belonging, trust, care, and safety. Throughout this unit the class will learn about the difference between wants and needs in a community.
The class will also make observations of different properties of rocks that we find outside in the playground area. They will use their prior knowledge of how we have sorted rocks based on size, color, texture to sort the rocks they find.
Homework Update
The class did a wonderful job with their spelling dictation last week. This routine will continue this week, and students will only have a math page each night. We are also asking that the class read and answer the questions on their reading log. We have been logging minutes in the classroom for the read-a-thon, but please reach out if you have questions about how to do that at home!
March Conferences
This year, our school calendar includes parent/teacher conferences on March 21st from 3:00-6:00 p.m. This will be a full day of school, with conferences beginning after school on that day. Because this time is limited, teachers will be scheduling with parents at their discretion. Please keep an eye out for a notice requesting a conference that will be sent home today. If you do not receive a letter you are welcome to still sign up for a 10 minute time slot.
If the date and times do not work for your schedule please reach out and we can find another morning or afternoon to meet.
