This week in 3rd grade...
- LA- This week our genre was realistic fiction. Students read a story called, I Wanna Iguana. Students discussed what made the story realistic fiction and how it could relate to their life. We created Vocabulary Keynote/Pic Collages. We also talked about breaking apart our words into syllables. We found out that breaking them apart actually helps us to spell them.
- Writing Workshop- We are on the final phases of recording our spooky stories. We also finished our Inaturalist project! Next week we will be writing fairy tales.
- Math- We continued to relate multiplication to division. We also learned how to divide using numbers 2-7. We also used our journals to answer critical thinking questions and then had a few number talks. Next week will focus on our 10's factors.
- Stemscopes- We started our unit on Inheritance and Variation of Traits. We completed an activity in which we flipped a coin to find out which parts of a plant (wide leaves, thin leaves, red flower, pink flower, different stems) we would receive and then talked about how most were different (variation). We also discussed how the plants could have inherited the different parts from the two plants. Next, we were tasked to help out , the "Harrison family" they were looking for va dog with specific traits. Students researched the traits and had to combine to different dogs. They then created a picture and are working on their sales pitch.
We visited Bringing Hope Home
Day of the Dead
We had number talks in math class based upon division.
