Jamison Journal
July 2014
What's new at Jamison?
Well, the office staff is hard at work as we prepare for the 2014-2015 school year. A few changes took place as the school year came to a close. Two staff members had to say good-bye to Jamison as they were given new assignments for the upcoming school year. Miss Nahas will be taking her smile and talents to Groveland Elementary school. In addition to Miss Nahas leaving, Mrs. Mazer, Cafeteria Manager, was given the opportunity to lead Tamanend Middle School's cafeteria. We wish both of them all the best.
New to Jamison will be the location of the Extended Day Kindergarten program. This program started at Jamison and then was moved to Warwick. For the 2014-2015 school year and forseeable future, we are fortunate to have it come back to Jamison! Mrs. Sarah Falcone will teach the Extended Day class and will be supported by Mrs. Laura Pickford.
In addition to some staff changes, a new slogan will welcome the children on the first day of school. During the past two years, children have heard about "Nothing Less than Your Best!" and "You don't have to...you get to!" This year, P.O.W.E.R (Passion / Ownership / Wellness / Excellence / Relationships) will be discussed throughout the school year. These five words can be life altering if applied to one's daily life. I'm excited to challenge your children to uphold this new slogan in their daily interactions.
Classroom Assignments
Riding your bike to your local elementary school to find out who your classroom teacher would be and which friends would be in your classroom are long gone. The anxiousness and excitement that moment would bring are memories that many of us won't foget.
Some of the same feelings still reside with some students and parents; however, instead of finding out by reading a classroom list posted on the school's main entrance, now students and families find out their "teacher's name" via the computer.
Simply, visit the Jamison website and find your child's room number...Classroom assignments will be linked to an individual teacher's welcome letter on Monday, August 4th.
Thank you for supporting this process and working together to make the upcoming school year a success.

5th and 6th Grade Math Placement
In grades 5 and 6, students are placed into specific math classes. Utilizing criteria provided by the school district, I review all 5th and 6th grade student math data and place students into their math class for the school year. This criteria was sent home with your child's report card on the last day of school.
I will contact families of 5th and 6th grade students (via email) to inform you into which math class your child has been placed.
Girls on the Run!!!!
A new running program is coming to Jamison Elementary. Girls on the Run (GOTR) will be starting a new running club for a limited number of girls starting this Fall. However, registration is extremely limited. A total of 15 girls are allowed to be part of this national program. The program is for girls in grades 3-6 and promotes self-respect and encourages healthy lifestyles. There will be an online sign up starting Friday, August 1st at 9AM. Again, registration is limited and will be on a first come, first served basis. http://www.cbsd.org/Domain/16
Make a Difference Program
Ms. Young has taken the Make a Difference Program overseas once again. She was back in Nigeria helping to build a library for the children and held their first ever Reading Olympics. To view more information about her travels and the impact of this program, please visit the website she provided:
School Supplies
Dear Community,
There has been a delay with the online school supply order process. Please utilize the school website to obtain your child's grade level supply list. I'm hopeful that we, the H&S Association and I, can coordinate this for next school year. I apologize for any inconvenience; however, enjoy the "traditional" summer travel to the local stores to purchase the necessary supplies.
Please visit our scool website (located on the right-hand side) for a copy of your child's supply list. http://www.cbsd.org/Domain/16
