Have Chatfield PRIDE!
Chatfield Loves Lapeer Spirit Week Was a Success!
Chatfield School kicked off the school year with a unique Spirit Week! With the desire to empower students and to teach students the value of serving others, Chatfield students and teachers reached out to the community.
- Kindergarten students made special gifts for the Lapeer County Sheriff. Kindergarten continues their annual “Save the Manatee” efforts and is initiating a new school-wide marker recycling program.
- The first-grade students are working with the Lapeer Refuge, Lapeer’s homeless shelter program. First grade will be preparing meals and creating goody bags for the Refuge day program.
- Second grade will again work closely with Paradise Animal Rescue. Second grade students volunteer regularly as part of their year-long service to the organization. Second graders sold handmade bracelets to support PAR and are preparing a gift basket for all the PAR volunteers.
- The third grade completed a book drive and delivered stacks of books to local assisted living and adult rehab centers. The third-grade students also stock and maintain the Chatfield Little Free Library that sits outside of the school.
- Chatfield fourth grade students wrote our local firemen letters and prepared a treat that they delivered to the station in person. Throughout the year fourth grade students meet with people from the Community Mental Health Stepping Stones program. The students welcome Stepping Stones twice a month and do activities together.
- Students in fifth grade visited and volunteer regularly at Suncrest as part of their year-long service to Suncrest residents.
- Sixth grade students worked clearing log jams in Farmer's Creek to make it passable for canoes and kayaks. The students also recognize Lapeer City Workers with treats and thank you cards.
- Seventh grade students at Chatfield spent hours on the Flint River canoeing and cleaning (between east Annrook Park and north Saginaw Street). The students collected tires and trash. The project will continue to Cass Community Services in Detroit, where students will deliver the tires to the Cass Green Industry to make mud-mats and sandals.
- The eighth-grade students will be clearing brush and provide clean up at the Oakdale Cemetery. The students are studying the history of the cemetery and the surrounding Oakdale grounds as well as supporting the new trails that wind through the area. The students also participate in serving the Lapeer Area Special Olympics and the Area 22 Special Olympics at Saginaw Valley State University. The students assist athletes onto the field and into place. Our students also serve as motivators, running alongside the participants urging them on.
There is a very clear purpose for Chatfield Loves Lapeer Spirit Week. It is an intentional kick off of service-learning projects and lessons that happen at Chatfield. Chatfield is focused on empowering students to make positive choices and become strong leaders in our community.
