debate team

Congratulations to the debate team for their performances at the Newman Smith and Lovejoy tournaments the past two weekends. At the Newman Smith tournament one week ago, the Public Forum team of Samarth Bhat and Alex Lee debated their way to the semifinal round. Junior Fatima Rizvi placed second in Lincoln Douglas debate. This past weekend at the Lovejoy tournament, Shahina Chatur and Judy Zhu were in the quarterfinals of policy debate. Sophomores Hannah Lewis and Zeke Stalnaker won the tournament in Public Forum debate. CHHS debate alum Katelynne Shadman has been instrumental in helping Hannah and Zeke reach their level of success. CHHS alum Jenn Melin has been helping Fatima with her arguments. We'd also like to thank Sim Guerrero for the work that she is doing with Shahina and Judy.

All of these tournaments are online tournaments. The competitors often compete from their homes in a virtual setting, requiring adapting to that environment, and finding new and unique ways to communicate with their teammates and coaching staff. It is a challenge, but one that we are willing to take on. We are hoping that our first year debaters get excited about debating and will attend virtual tournaments soon.
