MAP Testing to Begin
Dear Parents/Guardians,
During the week of May 17, second-grade students at Laura B. Sprague School will be taking the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment. In-person students will complete the two portions of the MAP test in-person, while remote students will complete the test remotely, with guidance from their teacher. You will receive the results of the assessment in the weeks following administration of the test.
The MAP assessment consists of both Reading and Math portions, and is one of the ways teachers and administrators collect data on student academic growth in a typical school year. MAP assessments are unique in that they are adaptive and will adjust according to student responses. This means the test becomes more difficult as your child answers correctly, or becomes less difficult if your child answers a question incorrectly. Therefore, your child takes a test targeted specifically to their learning level. Additionally, the MAP assessments are aligned with the Common Core State Standards, which is reflected in our English/Language Arts and Math curricula. If you are interested in learning more about the MAP assessments please visit https://www.nwea.org/parent-toolkit/.
Additional Information for Remote Students:
There is no need to have remote students come to school for the MAP assessment. The assessment will be administered remotely with your child receiving guidance from their teacher.
Since MAP measures a student’s readiness to learn, and provides growth data for the school year, it is important that your student is provided with an environment that allows them to focus on the assessment. Parents and other caregivers are not permitted to provide assistance while their student is taking the assessment.
Please create a quiet environment for your child where:
the room is well lit and at a comfortable temperature.
there is a sturdy place to set the iPad, preferably a desk or table.
no one will interrupt the assessment, including family members and pets.
the iPad is the only computing device for which your child has access.
there are as few potential distractions as possible.
Please complete the following to make sure your child’s iPad is ready for remote MAP testing:
Locate the NWEA/MAP app on the iPad.
Tap on the app to make sure you are taken to the NWEA/MAP login site in Safari.
Please review iPad settings with this video that will guide you through the iPad settings your child needs in order to access the MAP assessment. Your child’s advisory teacher will guide the students through this process prior to testing to verify that the iPad is ready for testing.
A link will be provided through Google Classroom for each student to access their Zoom Room where the test will be proctored. Students will remain on the Zoom meeting for the duration of the assessment, but may leave the Zoom after completing and submitting the assessment.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher.
Sincerely,
Partnerships
