Bobcat Bulletin
November 2019
A Word from Mr. Jerrell
Hello Bobcats!
We have reached the end of the first quarter of the 2019 - 2020 school year. Hopefully, all of our families have had the opportunity to conference with their child’s teacher(s) about their overall progress academically, socially, and emotionally this quarter. If you haven’t conferenced with your child’s teacher(s), please reach out as soon as possible.
Though this is the only mandatory conference for teachers, I encourage you to continue to reach out to your child’s teacher if you have questions or concerns. As part of our Better Together theme and our School Improvement Plan, our teachers will make individual contact with each family quarterly regarding their child’s specific progress. Contact could include a phone call, email, or personalized communication on progress reports (not generic comments). We believe a strong school involves the parents and community in our ongoing academic growth.
We had a successful first club day on October 25th. Students safely transitioned and had a great time in their respective clubs. I have challenged students to provide feedback on their clubs to me as they go to lunch this month. They can complete the sentence, “My favorite part of my club was _____” or “I would make my club better by ____”. Since we only have 5 more club days on the calendar, we will not be allowing any changes in clubs.
Finally, with the changing temperatures, more students bring coats, sweaters, jackets, gloves, and hats to stay warm. However, at recess, students leave all of these items outside on the field or the bus lot. We collect all the lost and found items and hang them up outside the cafeteria. To help us limit our lost and found supply, please write your child’s name on the inside tag of the clothing item so it can be returned if lost. At some point this year, we will be donating the lost and found items to a clothing shelter, so please claim your lost and found items as soon as possible.
Let’s have a great 2nd quarter!
Mr. Jerrell

What Is Bullying?
Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. Both kids who are bullied and who bully others may have serious, lasting problems.
In order to be considered bullying, the behavior must be aggressive and include:
- An Imbalance of Power: Kids who bully use their power—such as physical strength, access to embarrassing information, or popularity—to control or harm others. Power imbalances can change over time and in different situations, even if they involve the same people.
- Repetition: Bullying behaviors happen more than once or have the potential to happen more than once.
Bullying includes actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose.

This performance will be outside, weather permitting. If not, we will be in the gym.

Mark your calendars for the third grade winter program. It will take place on Thursday, December 12 at 6:30 pm. Students are asked to meet their classroom teacher at 6:00 pm, no sooner please. Students are also asked to wear holiday colors/clothing. Thank you!
The Bain Chorus will also perform on Thursday, December 12. Chorus members are asked to meet in the music room at 5:30 pm. The performance will begin at 6:00 pm. Chorus members are asked to wear their chorus t-shirt, blue jeans, and sneakers. Hope to see you there!

Please email Mrs. Graham or Mr. Pringle with any questions or concerns. Thank you so much!
