SE Hinton

Overview

Se Hinton was born on July 22,1948. She was an American writer best known for her young adult books, especially The Outsiders. She received the inaugural Margaret Edwards award in 1988. She mostly loves to write for teens. She first began writing The Outsiders in 1965. Since then, the book has sold more than 14million copies, and still sells more than 500thousand a year. After her success of The Outsiders, she chose to continue writing and publishing.

Impact

Her novels changed the way people look at young adult literature. People started loving her book, so they wanted more. In 1975, SE Hinton published "Rumble Fish" as a novel. Rumble Fish was the shortest novel she had published. She continues writing novels to this day.

The Outsiders was her first and best novel she has ever made. She was 15 when she started writing the novel. The story is told in a first person narrative by protagonist Ponyboy Curtis.
