GEORGIA IS THE SICKEST STATE IN THE COUNTRY
A new report from the health tech company Kinsa said that Georgia is currently the sickest state in the country. The company's data found that 6.5 percent of Georgia's population is dealing with flu-like symptoms.
How can you help protect your scholar:
- Talk to your scholar about the seriousness of the flu.
- Encourage your scholars to sneeze or cough in their arm.
- Tell your scholar to wash their hands with soap and water, as frequently as possible.
- Donate boxed tissue, Chlorox Wipes, and Hand Sanitizer (with at least 60% alcohol) to your scholar's homeroom teacher.
- Keep your scholar at home when they are sick.
Absences & Tardies Negatively Affect Academics
In support of student success, the Georgia Board of Education expects students to be present at school and to arrive and depart on-time in accordance with the provisions of the Georgia compulsory attendance law. Pursuant to O.C.G.A. §20-02-0690.1, and SS-6007 JB, parents, guardians or other persons having control or charge of students are liable for the students’ attendance in school.
***FYI, 56 scholars were tardy for school (without a parent escort) on ONE day this week.***
Please be advised that Genesis Innovation Academy is mandated by state law to report the parents of scholars who are chronically absent or chronically tardy for school to the school's social worker and local authorities.
CARPOOL/PARKING REMINDERS
- LATE ARRIVALS - If your scholar arrives at school after 8:00 am, you MUST come into the school to sign your scholar(s) in;
- PARKING - Please do NOT block/impede the flow of traffic by parking/abandoning your vehicle in the carpool lanes;
- RESPECT - We expect our families to show respect and exhibit courteous behavior at all times. We have cameras in the parking lots. We will contact Atlanta Police and/or Department of Family and Children Services if a hostile or disrespectful act is committed by a parent/visitor.
- LATE PICKUPS - If a lower school parent arrives after 3:30 pm or if an upper school parent arrives after 4:30 pm, their scholar(s) will be sent to after-school care with Global Tech Academy; parents MUST pay the late fees assessed by Global Tech. There are no exceptions to this rule. For parents who are repeat offenders and/or refuse to comply, we will have no choice but to contact the appropriate government/state agency.
WINTER MAP ASSESSMENTS
Makeup testing will take place January 21 - 22, 2020
Scholars in grades 2 through 8 will test in Reading, Math and ELA.
Scholars in grades K - 1 will test in Reading and Math.
Please make sure your scholars:
- EAT A NUTRITIOUS BREAKFAST
- ARE WELL-RESTED
- ARE PRESENT *if the scholar is ill, please keep them at home (makeups will be available)
- ARE ON-TIME
MAP Assessments are used to measure a scholar's growth in Mathematics, Reading, and ELA. The Fall assessments gather baseline data. The Winter assessment measures progress. The Spring assessment measures the scholars' growth to that point. MAP Assessments are a strong predictor of how well a scholar will perform on the Georgia Milestones Test.
