Quality learning for all in a caring community.
Kounga ako mo katoa i roto i te taiao e atawhai ana.
Dear parents and friends of our school Kia Ora/Bora Da/Konichi Wa/Hello
WORKING AT ALERT LEVEL 1
Kia ora Koutou
Exciting news that we are moving closer to a bit more normality and, quicker than many of us expected. For us, there will be no major changes to what we are doing and our school continues to be safe to attend. We have good cleaning routines in place, and we thank you for keeping your children at home when sick and we continue to encourage good hygiene practices. Once again thank you all for your support during alert level 2 it really has been appreciated. Our staff and children should both be applauded for the seamless way they have adapted whilst back at school.
There are key public health measures - Golden Rules - for everyone in New Zealand to follow. For schools and early learning services this means:
- If people are sick, they should stay home (phone Healthline or their GP and get tested if you have cold or flu symptoms).
- Continue to regularly wash and dry hands, sneeze and cough into elbows.
- Soap, water and the ability to dry hands should be provided in bathrooms.
- Regularly disinfect shared surfaces.
- Support contact tracing efforts by displaying QR Code posters for the NZ COVID Tracer App (see item below for more information).
- Stringent self-isolation of those who display relevant symptoms of COVID-19, test positive for COVID-19, have been in close contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19, or have been overseas in the last 14 days – Ministry of Health information for self-isolation.
ENTERING AND EXITING SCHOOL
- Parent and caregivers will no longer have to complete the tracking sheet when coming in to the school, but the register for signing in and out still remains.
BUS CHILDREN
- At 3.00pm children must leave their school bags outside their classroom and collect their bag at 3.20 when the bus bell goes and walk to the bus shelter. Bus children are not allowed in the shelter until this time.
NON BUS CHILDREN
Children will be required to walk to the bus shelter to be collected by their families at 3.00 as per usual.
HOT LUNCHES ON WEDNESDAYS
Hot lunches will start up again every Wednesday. Please bring something that can be heated up in our pie warmers. Remember it must be named. This can include things like pies, sausage rolls etc.
SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES
Now that we are back to level 1, School Assemblies will begin again. These are being held at 2.30pm and parents are welcome to attend. Keep an eye out on our school calender for when your childs class is going to present next.
WHEEL WEDNESDAYS
Children can now bring their scooters and bikes etc if they wish to ride these around our courts on Wednesday - morning tea and/or lunch.
QR CODE POSTERS
We are supporting contact tracing by having QR code posters on display on the outside door of the windlock beside the school office– so if you haven’t already downloaded the NZ COVID Tracer app the Ministry of Health’s NZ-COVID Tracer app page has information to help you do that.
What is changing is we can now look forward to inter-school and community sport, cultural events and performances and to welcoming all of our school community on site for these activities. We will keep you all posted as we plan ahead for this.
We therefore look forward to seeing you very soon.

All classes will have a class copy of the sticker sheets for your child to add to but if you prefer have a copy of your own sheet at home these are available by the office or see a member of the sports council. There is a new double points sheet for the new varieties of sweet tango, Ambrosia and Lemonade. Happy collecting.

KEEPING KIDS SAFE ONLINE
MESSENGER FOR KIDS
Many of our children are asking parents to sign them up for Messenger Kids. If you're interested in finding out more about this app before you sign your child up click here for information from Netsafe. It's a very safe app, but no app is 100% safe, so make sure you read through the information and talk to you children about staying safe online.
COMMUNITY NOTICES
Community Oral Health Service
The effects of COVID-19 have been widely felt, and as a nation we have had the opportunity to protect those we love by being in lockdown. Although the Community Oral Health Service is an essential service and worked through lockdown, we were severely restricted in Levels 3 + 4 by the Dental Council of New Zealand (DCNZ), and we were only permitted to provide emergency and urgent dental care which we did from two clinics, one each in Hawera and New Plymouth.
Now that we are in Level 2, DCNZ have advised we may see more children, providing we adhere to new restrictions which affects the number of children which may be seen each day. In order to comply with these restrictions, as well as ensure we are able to provide care to those who need it the most, we have had to prioritise children according to their clinical need. This means that we will be continuing to see those who were under treatment before lockdown and those who have teeth that are sore or need treatment. Unfortunately for the time being we will not be able to complete routine exams (check-ups).
As soon we are able, we will be contacting parents and caregivers to offer appointments for exams, but until then our teams are working very hard to care for the children who need dental treatment to manage pain and infection. However if any child has any dental pain or concerns, parents should phone 0800 825 583, and they will be able to speak to someone who can help them.
