I'm very excited to have you in this class! In order for you to be successful in this course, you must work hard, study, and stay on schedule! These things are crucial! You must check your GAVS email at least one time a day---this will be our main source of communication. I will also be posting weekly news items in our class with reminders and important information. Please always read your news items.

I am here for YOU. Although this is very different than a "normal" school setting, my role as a teacher is similar. You will go through the content and learn on your own. I will then help you where you need help. I will hold Adobe Connect synchronous live sessions weekly. These are a great time to get extra help. Furthermore, I will lead sessions to extend your learning.

Please don't forget to complete the questionnaire below!

Please watch my welcome video that explains navigating the course:

Office hours every Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Please join me during my weekly office hour to ask any questions you have! I will often have a lesson prepared to help you with your lessons.

If you have questions outside of this time, please feel free to email or call me. I love to help students, and I love to hear from you! If you have a problem with a certain assignment or concept, I am happy to prepare a lesson on this, I welcome suggestions! You will find a link to enter the Adobe Connect session on my course homepage.

Don't forget to choose a course schedule to get started! You may choose 18, 16, 14, or 12 weeks.

A little about Frau Frantzen

My name is Debra Frantzen. I have taught German for 6 years. Previously I have taught in a face-to-face classroom, as well as online classes. I have taught classes from the middle school through college level. I really love the idea of teaching online because I get to know students in a different way than I would in a normal classroom setting. I’ve always incorporated lots of technology into my classroom. This position also allows me flexibility and the opportunity to stay with a school, since we move every 2-3 years! So far we have lived in Georgia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and California. But our favorite place so far is still Georgia!

I have been married for 6 years. We have 2 children, named Ben and Anna. We live currently in California, and I was raised in Savannah, Georgia. My husband and I went to school at UGA and I am a double dog! My husband is German and Swiss-German, and we visit his family once a year in Germany and Switzerland. We are raising our children bilingually in German and English.

In college, I studied not only German, but Spanish as well. I studied abroad in Rostock, Berlin, and Erlangen, Germany, as well as in Salamanca, Spain. I have taught all levels of German, from German I to IB/AP German. My goals are not only to introduce you to German language, but also to German culture. I hope that learning German will be a fun experience for you.

You can email me or call me at anytime. I will get back to you within 24 hours. You can call me and leave me a message on my phone. If I don’t answer, please make sure that you leave a message with a return number. That is the only way that I will return missed calls. I will return calls as soon as I can--again within 24 hours. Contact me with your questions, concerns . . . whatever questions you might have. My job is to help you be SUCCESSFUL!
