February School Board Highlights
The Stevens Point Area Public School District held its regular February meeting on Monday, February 10, 2020.

Community Partnership and Recognition
Point of Discovery School student, Boyd Czaikowski, presented the Mandana Bliss award to Katie Kollock (below).
McDill Elementary School student, Kylie Haas, presented the Mandana Bliss award to Melissa Oliver (below).
The Consent Agenda, including previous minutes, the approval of monthly bills and employment recommendations were approved.
Business Services
The Board approved the purchase of fifteen (15) buses as presented at the principal cost of $1,030,740 to be paid by lease at $185,159 per year over a six-year period for a total of $1,110,954.
Low bids for Roosevelt Elementary were approved as presented totaling of $3,946,566.
The recommended Holian Environmental Cleaning Corp. bid for asbestos abatement at Plover-Whiting Elementary in the amount of $80,400 was approved.
The 2020-21 Student Fee Schedule was approved as presented.
A summary of the referendum budget including approved bid packages, changes order and other costs, progress payments to Nexus, and corresponding contract balances were provided.
Human Resources
Superintendent Gerlach informed the Board of current work being done to explore potential safety and security positions in the District.
Educational Services
The Board approved a pilot project to add 10th-grade to Point of Discovery School contingent upon the adoption of a memorandum of understanding between the SPAPSD and the Point of Discovery School Governance Crew.
The Rural Virtual Academy Invested Member Commitment Agreement 2020-2025 was approved as presented.
Director of Secondary Education, Connie Negaard, presented trends from the 2019 Youth Risk Behavior Survey. The survey is administered to students grades 7 - 12 in the Spring.
The superintendent was directed to contact area Legislators to request their co-sponsorship of the creation of 115.385(1g)(e) relating to measuring a school district's improvement for the school and school district accountability report.
Closed Session
The board voted unanimously to move into Closed Session 19.85(1)(c) Considering employment, promotion, compensation or performance evaluation data of any public employee and 19.85(1)(c)(e) Deliberating or negotiating the purchase of public properties, the investing of public funds or conducting other specified public business.
The next regular meeting of the school board will take place on March 9, 2020, at the Bliss Educational Services Center.

4K Registration Begins February 24
The Stevens Point Area Public School District, Point for the Future Four-Year-Old Kindergarten (4K) program will open registration online, Monday, February 24, 2020, beginning at 8:00 a.m. Curriculum and instruction are delivered through a community-based program across 16 facilities including childcare facilities, parochial locations, and other public venues.
4K for the 2020-2021 school year is available to incoming students who will be four years old on or before September 1, 2020. If a family has no computer or internet access, accommodations for registration will be made at the Bliss Educational Services Center, 1900 Polk Street, Stevens Point.
