NWEA, Part 2
Happy second week of NWEA! We certainly hope that today's Math assessment and tomorrow's Language assessment are smooth like butter! Thanks to everyone for your patience in what has turned into a challenging process. We've rescheduled our NWEA Wing Dance Party for this Friday. All students that did not record a 'disengagement' on the exams will be invited. All of the teachers are excited to dance with you on Friday. Well, some of them are excited. Which of your teachers do you expect to see doing the 'wobble' on Friday?
Teachers will be reviewing results during a late start (2-hour delay) meeting on Wednesday, September 19th. After that time, we'll start the process of meeting with students to discuss learning goals for the year. We'll also be uploading results into our Pivot Data Warehouse. Parents and guardians will be instructed how to access Pivot to see results, as well.
Student Council Needs YOU!
Have you ever wanted to be in a group that does a lot of things for the school? Have you ever wanted to join a fun group of people? Are you wanting to improve your leadership skills? If the answer is yes to any of these, come to the Student Council call out meeting on Thursday, September 6th. The meeting will be held in Mr. Shoultz’s room (200) at 7:15 AM. Get dropped off at the front door, enter the office, tell Mrs. Walsh you are going to the meeting, and go to room 200. Student Council sponsors our fall and spring dances, provides special treats for our faculty all year long, and helps raise money and awareness for community organizations, and that’s not all! Please come to our meeting on Thursday to learn more. We hope to see you there!

Calling all Warrior Chefs!
The SMS FACS Club is ready to make its debut for the 2018-2019 school year! Meetings this year will be held on the first and third Thursday of each month after school until 4:00. If you are interested in becoming involved with the club be sure to complete the club application found on the SMS Community page. Applications are due by Friday, September 14th. Those selected will be notified via Canvas. See Mr. Shoultz if you have any questions!
Spell Bowl Tryouts Rescheduled
Due to NWEA testing on Wednesday, tryouts for Spell Bowl will be held during Homeroom on Thursday, September 6th. Any 6th, 7th, or 8th-grade student in good academic standing is invited to participate.
After your HOMEROOM teacher takes attendance, 6th-graders will report to Mrs. Shuler in room 600 for a FIFTEEN-WORD written spelling test. Seventh-graders will report to Mrs. Carter in room 706 after Homeroom attendance, and 8th-graders will report to Mrs. Cox in 803.
Remember, if joining the SMS Spell Bowl Team sounds like something you’d like to do, please
- Check out the link to the IASP Junior Division List http://www.iasp.org/pdf/spelljrwordlist.pdf
- Have a conversation at home—who would pick you up from practices if they end at 4:15?
- See your Language Arts teacher or Mrs. Cox for specific questions.
eHallPass Update
We're getting better! We're having some success with our pass system! There is one MAJOR issue that we all need to remember in order to effectively create a pass.
Where you ARE can be a 'teacher.' Where you are GOING must be a 'room.'
I am in Mrs. June's class. I am going to the MC.
I am in Ms. Sutton's class. I am going to the West Gym/Conder.
I am in Mr. Carter's class. I am going to the Office.
If a pass to a teacher's room is set up correctly, you should not need to put in a reason. If you are writing a pass to the office, nurse, or guidance, you will need a reason. It can be a one- or two-word reason such as bus, sports, call home, sick, C2, etc.
See Miss Nass if you have any difficulties with eHallPass! Thank you.
