A Long Walk to Water Dress Down Day
Earlier in the school-year, Mrs. Souliske's 7th grade ELA students read the novel, A Long Walk to Water. The novel, written by Linda Sue Park includes the hardships of two 11 year old children living in the Sudan. The 7th grade students were so moved by what they read. In their class discussion of the book, they began brainstorming ways they could make a difference in the lives of children who do not have access to water. Mrs. Souliske connected her class with Amie Wagner of Uprising. Uprising has helped children in Uganda for over a decade with initiatives including building schools and installing fresh rainwater collection systems. Together, the DeSales 7th graders set a goal of raising enough money to help repair a shower and build a reserve tank at the school in Uganda.
The students have been collecting change in a well they made in their classroom. On Friday, November 6th we will have a Dress Down Day here at DeSales for a $1 or more donation to help these students raise money for Uprising. Together we can help them reach their goal.

HSA Quarantine-O-Ween - Instead of Trunk or Treating, we are keeping with the spirit of Halloween by providing individual classroom Quarantine-O-Ween parties on Friday, October 30th. The parties will occur during your student’s respective lunch periods so that we may limit contact exposure. Current Lunch Monitors and your student’s teachers will supervise the parties. DeSales HSA is treating each classroom to donuts and a drink for our PreK classes, and pizza for K-8.
Halloween is all about pumpkins and costumes and we are planning some fun activities for our students. Our PreK through 5th grade classes will enjoy a pumpkin decorating craft to bring home, while our middle schoolers will compete in an ultimate costume contest with prizes for 1st and 2nd place.
