A Message from Superintendent Dr. John Sparlin
Hello SD 308 Families,
I hope this message finds you well. This week, I am requesting your assistance in talking with your child(ren) about the importance of keeping threatening words and/or inappropriate discussions out of school. Recently we've worked through a number of situations where students said things that caused fear in others. While intentions of harm may not always be real, when potentially threatening language or topics are discussed it necessitates a response. We want all students to feel safe while at school and we try to minimize disruptions as much as possible.
I am so proud of the students who have come forward to report to a trusted adult when things they see or hear are concerning, "see something, say something". We take each of these reports seriously and conduct a full investigation in order to maintain a safe learning environment in our schools.
It's important for students to remember that their choice of words and actions can cause serious repercussions when they generate fear and disruption at school. Resources are used each time we investigate these situations, including consultation and sometimes response from police. Thank you for your help in reviewing with your child(ren) what is appropriate to discuss at school, and what is not. It's hard for students to understand that even when they're joking, certain statements have to be taken seriously and consequences may be significant.
As always, we value our important family and school partnership as we work together to provide students with the best educational experience possible.
Have a wonderful weekend and stay warm!

IT'S NOT TOO EARLY!!!! It's time to schedule your appointments for Physical, Immunizations, and Dental Forms! All forms completed now are valid for the next school year. Incoming K, 2, 6, 9, and 12th graders and new students will need updated forms. All families are encouraged to visit the website to see what will be needed for your child. All families are encouraged to submit these completed forms as soon as possible, preferably prior to the end of this school year! All forms may be submitted to your current school. We want to avoid any school exclusions for these forms! Please remember that any student participating in a sport must have a sports physical completed within 13 months of the sport. Please clarify to your physician if a sports or school physical is needed to ensure you have the correct form.

Illinois 5Essentials Survey
Students, teachers, and parents across Illinois now have an opportunity to participate in the eleventh annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of a school. For parents, this opportunity allows them to share their thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about their child’s school. If at least 20 percent of parents at each school complete this survey, a parent supplement report will be generated. To take the survey visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ and select the appropriate survey to begin. Note: you must choose Kendall County in order to locate all SD 308 schools. Please complete the survey between now and March 31.
