NEW! Digital Leaders Club
Monday 1245 - 1320 in T02
Open to all Grades and levels of 'techiness'!
As you are aware, Halcyon is at the forefront of digital learning and innovative ideas. Students have the opportunity for coding clubs and trying out new apps, with visits from companies such as Kahoots, Google, RefMe - companies all wanting to be involved in the learning we do here. Some of our teachers are Google Certified Teachers or Apple Distinguished Educators and we also host industry conferences such as EdTech and BETT. Just a few weeks ago, students presented on the Google stand at the BETT Conference and in the past, students were involved in digital filmmaking for the 2015 COBIS Conference.
We are now striving to go even further!
Ms Rose and Ms Cranell would like to set up a FUN, "Digital Leaders" Club on Monday lunchtimes.
The aim of this club is to work on ideas for developing Digital Learning at Halcyon, as well as get involved in other projects. We have some exciting projects and opportunities coming up but most importantly, we want YOUR ideas!
So, if you want to be involved in the digital innovation happening at Halcyon - come to our club!

This week I have a quiz of the week apology. I did not collect click to collect the respondents email address on the form and sadly I do not know who's answers belong to who! All groups scored between 4 and 5 points. Please see the answers below.
Best wishes,

ISA Testing for MYP Students
0900-1220 Wednesday 10 February, ISA Tests Part 1 - Grades 6-10 (testing starts after advisory)
0905-1135 Thursday 11 February, ISA Tests Part 2 - Grades 6-10 (testing starts after assembly)
1135-1230 Thursday 11 February, ISA Science tests - Grades 7-10
Classes take place as normal after the testing.
The ISA tests are standardised tests in mathematics, reading, and writing and science from Grade 7. At Halcyon, teachers use the results of the tests to help plan the curriculum to meet your individual needs. A copy of your test results is sent home, but the results do not affect your MYP grades or term reports. You do not need to study for these tests.
The ISA tests are online tests that can be taken on an iPad or on a laptop. You do not need to bring any special materials but will need a fully charged device and you may like to use a keyboard with your iPad if you have one. If your first language is not English, you may use a translating dictionary and you should bring a paper dictionary to the test as you will not be able to access electronic dictionaries. You may use your TINspire iPad calculator or any other calculator on the math test. You cannot share dictionaries or calculators.
Each test lasts about 45 minutes but the tests are not time limited - you may continue working longer. Students who qualify for extra time in examinations will be encouraged to use the time they need. There are breaks between each test and healthy snacks and drinks will be provided during the breaks. You may also bring a filled water bottle to the tests.
You will have a practice trial of the tests in a math, science and English class during the week of 01 February. The purpose of the practice is to get used to the online format and the style of the questions. These practice tests are not marked and do not affect your final results.
