The WJHS Panther Update
January 13, 2023
Principal's Letter
Panther Families,
First Semester report cards may now be viewed in Skyward (Instructions & Explanation). CONGRATULATIONS to all of our 1st Semester Honor Roll Students!
8th Grade Parents - The graduation gown survey is due TODAY! It was emailed to you on Monday, January 9th, and must be completed for every eighth grade student. If you do not complete the survey, a gown will not be ordered for your child (the gown is required to participate in the graduation ceremony). There is an option on the survey to choose not to order a gown if you are using a sibling's gown from a prior WJHS year (if you respond NO gown required on the survey, the gown fee will be reversed on your Skyward account).
Family Literacy Night: TONIGHT! Prairie Area Reading Council will host a Family Literacy Night from 4:45 to 6:45 pm at Westmont Public Library, 428 N Cass Avenue, Westmont, Illinois.
New Staff - Our Panther family is pleased to announce that Ms. Laura Joy has joined our staff. Laura will be teaching our 7th grade Science students for the remainder of this school year. Ms. Joy began her teaching career in 1999 and has twenty years experience teaching 7th and 8th grade science, three years teaching Marine Biology, and three years as an Instructional Coach for K-8. Prior to teaching, Ms. Joy did field research studying behavior of dolphins in Africa and Roatan, Honduras and also in Pediatric Infectious Disease with the University of Chicago. Her passion for learning is embedded in her hands-on lessons. She has an undergraduate degree in biology, an MA in education, and is finishing her MA in Special Education. Please join us in welcoming our newest Panther!
Board Presentation - Ms. Quattrone & Mr. Lipinski gave a presentation on WJHS to the Board of Education this past Tuesday. Thank you to the following students for attending and participating in the presentation: Rasheedah A., Annica B., Zach C., Evy E., Xavier R., Gyselle S., Emily S., and Keshav V. Great job, Panthers!

After school pick-up - We are, once again, experiencing carline issues at pick-up time.
As a reminder, there is no parking/idling on Blackhawk Drive or Oakwood Drive south of Blackhawk Drive. We are very concerned about the safety of our children and have noticed an increase in traffic congestion. Your help is greatly appreciated.
NO SCHOOL - Monday, January 16th (MLK Day)
iReady Testing - ELA and Math testing will be next Tuesday & Thursday from 8:30-10:30am. Please ensure that your student reports to school on time, well-rested, and with a fully-charged Chromebook on these days (a good breakfast helps too!). Unless students are ill or there is an emergency, we ask that they do not miss school during these testing periods. The results of these tests will help to guide our instruction for the second semester.
Graduation
Ms. Quattrone and Mr. Lipinski will be speaking with parents/guardians of students who are currently in jeopardy of not participating in graduation activities due to requirements for academic standing or SSLC hours.
By working together as a team to create a plan both with and for your student, we will provide them with the tools and direction necessary to succeed.
As a reminder, an "F" grade in 3 out of 5 core classes (literacy counts as two) at the end of the year will prohibit a student from participating in graduation events.
PTO News
- Next PTO meeting will be Wednesday, February 8th
HVAC - Please see this timeline for the installation of the new HVAC system at WJHS.
CUSD 201 has updated its COVID-19 protocols based on the guidance from the CDC, IDPH, and DCHD. The IDPH has updated the school decisions making tree to help schools to know when to exclude students (School Decision Tree). You can review the protocols here: CUSD 201 COVID-19 Protocols.
Covid Testing - The District will be providing free COVID-19 testing every Monday. The testing is optional. Please use this link (CUSD 201 COVID-19 testing) if you wish to enroll your child for testing.
Remember to check the WJHS calendar for up-to-date information on Clubs, Events, & Athletics.
Sincerely,
Amy Quattrone
WJHS Principal
