Principal's Message:
Dear Weibel Families,
Welcome to our new newsletter! We hope that our new interface will be easier to access and navigate by families. This newsletter can also be translated into 50+ languages. Please look at the upper right hand corner to change to the preferred language.
We have already reached the end of the first trimester. Time goes by so quickly! As we wrap up the first trimester, Weibel will have our parent/teacher conferences during the week of November 16th. This is a great opportunity for you to meet the teacher to discuss the areas of strengths and improvements. Since we are in distance learning, all conferences will be via Zoom. All prep teachers and specialists will also be available to meet with you as well. Please look out for directions in signing up your conference time. It’s also valuable to have your child attend the meeting to increase accountability.
I am very proud and grateful to be your principal and work alongside our dedicated staff, amazing students, and of course supportive families. As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions and/or concerns you may have. As we approach our first break, I wish everyone a safe holiday break. Happy Thanksgiving!
Sincerely,
Ms. Lee

Dear Parents and Guardians,
I would like to spend a few moments talking about anxiety. This topic has been coming up for several students and families. As parents we have our own worries about work, our child’s academics, as well as everyone’s physical and mental health. Our students have many of these same worries. It is very normal to have some anxious or worried feelings. As with all feelings, they are part of our life. However, it doesn’t feel good and isn’t healthy to stay in a feeling if it drains you. Acknowledge your feelings. Acknowledge your child’s feelings. The feeling is there whether we like it or not. Next, talk about why this feeling is there and how you/they can move through it. Teaching and modeling positive self-talk, self-care, and problem solving will go a long way in helping you to get through this year with a little more ease. Teach your child that they have the mental strength and know-how to tackle difficult things that come their way. What a great feeling for them to understand what they can control (themselves, their behavior, and how they cope with the unknown and strong emotions). If you need any help dealing with anxiety or any other strong emotions, please do reach out. I am more than happy to help!
Finally, I would like to remind you about the ongoing Mental Health Challenge. The raffle for the second challenge, gratitude, will close on 11/4. I am looking forward to sharing what our students are thankful for. It is very humbling.

Happy October!
This year has started out strong with our students and staff celebrating Start With Hello Week in September. Start with Hello Week is a program supported by the Sandy Hook Promise. It gets kids talking about and learning the importance of noticing others, reaching out to them and inviting them to be part of our community. We encourage students to not just make new connections and friendships during SWH Week, rather all year long. Support your student in this endeavor by checking in with them throughout the year. Encourage them to invite new students, or students who are often alone, to play with them. If you are concerned that your student may be feeling alone, reach out to your student's teacher and/or the counseling team for support! Keep the conversation going this month as you talk to your students about being inclusive, while celebrating and enjoying differences.
Take Care,
Christel and Wendy (Weibel's co-counselors)
