Happy Friday!
Happy Friday, everyone! I hope that you are all doing well.
Our students started their weekends a day early so that our teachers could participate today in a day of professional development and learning. I hope that our students enjoyed a day of nice weather to do something fun. Please keep in mind that students will again be off from school for teacher professional development on Monday, 11/1, & Tuesday, 11/2.
We appreciate everyone's continued cooperation and support as we navigate COVID protocols and procedures. Our school nurse, Ms. Hartner, has provided some updates below. I also need to share with you that we had our first case of an in-school transmission since my last update to you. While any level of transmission is concerning, our school community continues to do an excellent job of navigating and managing these challenges. We will remain vigilant and would ask that you do so, also.
Please take a few minutes to review the important information in this week's newsletter. Thank you for all of your support. Have a wonderful weekend!
FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE
With the onset of cold and flu season, we are seeing an increase in students on the absence list and those coming to school with COVID-like symptoms. Based on the Pennsylvania Department of Health current exclusion criteria, please keep your child home from school and get a COVID test if your child has:
ONE or more of the following:
- New cough, lack of smell or taste (without congestion), shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing,
OR TWO or more of the following:
- Fever (oral greater than 100 or temporal greater than 99.5), sore throat, chills, muscle pain, fatigue, headache, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
If your child has these symptoms, please keep them home and get a COVID test. If a student comes to the nurse’s office and meets the above criteria, they will be sent home and will require a COVID test to return to school. Please have a plan on how to pick your child up from school immediately if you receive a call from the school nurse.
Please note, if a student has a pending COVID test, they may not attend school until all results are back and negative. The exception to this is students who are fully vaccinated with a known exposure and who do not have symptoms. They may attend school while fully masked pending the results of their test. Home tests are not acceptable.
Please find more detailed information regarding COVID on the RTMSD website under Covid FAQ

Fall Fundraiser - Last Call
Our fall fundraiser, sponsored by Student Council, will end on Sunday night. The sale has been a HUGE SUCCESS - THANK YOU to everyone who has participated thus far! The main products include cookie dough and magazines. Other various gift items are also available. It's not too to participate. Here are the links to my letter and the program details. There is also a brief video that explains the program. Funds raised will be used by Student Council to support activities, special events, and school beautification. Participation is, of course, voluntary. On behalf of our students, thank you for your consideration and support!
PARENT-TEACHER GROUP
Thank you to everyone who attended this week's PTG meeting. The next meeting will be held in November - date TBD. The PTG looks forward to supporting various projects and events this school year. We also hope to have parent volunteer opportunities - when conditions allow. The PTG would really appreciate your support with a few items...
Membership & Dues - The PTG's budget is directly linked to our collection of dues from each family. Dues for this year are $15. Thank you to everyone who has already submitted dues. If you have not done so already, it's not too late. You may either pay using PayPal or you may send a check to school in an enveloped marked PTG. You may also use the envelope that was included in the August Back-to-School mailing.
Fundraising - The PTG is hoping to to supplement the collection of dues with several fundraising efforts. The PTG participates in the Box Tops for Education Program and Amazon Associates Program. These programs take advantage of shopping that you may already be doing. In addition, the PTG is looking to schedule several dining fundraisers throughout the school year. The first one will be held on October 26th at Temaki Sushi Bar in Media. Access the flyer for more details.
PARENT PROGRAM - ONLINE SAFETY
The Delaware County Intermediate Unit is sponsoring a parent presentation entitled, "Prioritizing Online Safety: What Every Parent and Educator Must Know". This online program will be held on October 27th from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. For more information and to register, access the program flyer.
CHECK GRADES IN HAC
The 1st marking period ends on Friday, November 5th. I have been encouraging students to review their grades in Home Access Center (HAC) and to address any "Z" grades as soon as possible. If you have not done so recently, I would encourage you to sit with your child for a few minutes and ask them to pull up their grades in HAC. This will be a great opportunity to either celebrate academic success thus far or to make a plan for what needs to happen in the coming days and weeks. We want to be sure that everyone is off to a great academic start for the year.
COMING SOON - PINK-OUT IN SUPPORT OF BREAST CANCER AWARENESS
As part of an upcoming Spirit Week, Student Council will be sponsoring a school-wide PINK-OUT in support of breast cancer awareness. Students will be encouraged to dress in pink. Student Council will also be selling limited edition t-shirts for $12. All profits from those sales will be donated to a cancer-related charity on behalf of our school. T-shirts will be available soon - stay tuned for more details about Spirit Week, the Pink-Out, and t-shirt sales.
