November High School Happenings
The Chromebooks Are Coming! The Chromebooks Are Coming!
Students in 3rd - 12th Grade will soon have their very own Chromebook for learning
Gananda Central School District will be providing a Chromebook to every student attending classes in 3rd through 12th grade beginning Friday, November 2. Chromebooks are compact laptops that run and store cloud-based applications and data. They are inexpensive, easy to use, and will provide our students with a more personalized learning experience.
We have been focusing on personalized learning in our classrooms and currently our students are using shared devices for their learning. Providing an individual Chromebook to each of our students in 3rd through 12th grade will continue the success we are experiencing now by providing them with an individualized workspace and daily use of a device.
As part of this program, we will be providing training workshops to parents. The training dates are as follows:
- Tuesday, October 30 at 6:30pm
- Friday, November 2 at 7:30am
- Friday, November 2 at 2pm
- Wednesday, November 7 at 6:30pm
Additional information about these workshops and how to sign up were emailed to parents October 19th along with information about the “Chromebook Take Home Program,” which allows students to bring their Chromebook home with them to continue their school work. It is not mandatory to participate in the “Chromebook Take Home Program," however, students choosing to participate in the “Take Home Program,” have required forms for both the student and parent to sign and submit.
We look forward to rolling out this program to bring our learning into the 21st century!

Instrumental Winter Concert
We are fast approaching our Winter Concert which will take place on Thursday, November 29th at 7PM. We have a wonderful concert planned for our audience with a variety of selections from our jazz band and concert band as well as other smaller instrumental groups. Some of the highlights of the concert include: The Ides of March famous tune “Vehicle”, “Something” from the Beatles and “Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24” as performed by Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
We would also like to invite you to perform along with the band on our annual performance of the Leroy Anderson standard "Sleigh Ride". If you or any of your family or friends are interested please complete this form. Additional information regarding the performance of “Sleigh Ride” can be found on the link. This is a great opportunity to be on stage and have fun playing music!
Following the performance will be refreshments in the atrium. We hope that you will enjoy us for a great night of music by the talented Gananda students!

Health and Attendance Office News
- Physicals are required for all sports participants and any students needing a work permit. Please forward copies of your student's physicals to the Health Office, or upload directly to Family ID.
- We are encouraging students to get their flu vaccine. We want to keep students and staff healthy, and help prevent the spread of flu at school! Here is a guide for parents regarding the flu.
Guidance Office News
The Guidance Department is finishing up senior interviews and will start junior interviews in December. We will be pushing into classrooms for students grades 9th-11th over the next couple of months to introduce our new college and career platform, Xello.
Just a reminder for students to keep accumulating volunteer hours this year. In order to qualify for Gananda Dollar for Scholars scholarship opportunities, students must have a total of 20 hours throughout high school of which 5 of those hours need to be specific to GDFS sponsored events.
Check out the new scholarship opportunities posted on the Guidance website (link here).
Remember SAT prep is personalized and free when students use Khan Academy which has partnered with the College Board. The site also has review lessons for all high school courses including videos and practice problems.
