CHOIR DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR
Ms. Lori Lyford has been named the 2019 National Association for Music Education (NAfME) Music Educator of the Year. Ms. Lyford directs CHS’s award winning choirs, and according to Joe Cerutti from the NAfME, who flew in from Washington D.C. to present the award, “Ms. Lyford is a sought-after coach, clinician, and chorus director, and is well known in barbershop circles for her passion and enthusiasm for singers of all ages.” Congratulations, Ms. Lyford!
POSITIVE REFERRAL WINNER
Congratulations to Omar Gonzalez, CHS’s Fall 2018 Positive Referral winner and recipient of a free Chromebook! Omar was “written up” by Miss Butenschoen, his English teacher, for being caring and responsible. CHS appreciates the hundreds of students who are recognized each year for exhibiting positive character.
UNDER ARMOUR ALL AMERICAN GAME
Coach Shaun Aguano and Brayden Liebrock were invited to coach and compete in the Under Armour All American Game in Orlando, FL over break. What an honor!
STUDENT-ATHLETE ACCOLADES
Congratulations to the following athletes for being named to Arizona Sports360 All-Academic Teams:
Cross Country: Morgan Foster, Brooke Eversden, Ryan Taylor, Becca Taylor, Mihajla Milovanovic. The runners’ GPAs range from 4.65 to 4.24.
Volleyball: Kaylie Ray, Mikaila Williams, Taylor Aguano, Emily Kendall, Isa Glass, NeChe Newton, and Monet Whittier. The girls’ GPAs range from 4.6 to 3.9.
Football: Will Kemper, Jacob Conover, Brayden Liebrock, Jacob De La Torre, Trey Franco, Daseau Puffer, Javan Ah’Quin, Joshua Pena, Max Sandlin, Miles McNair, Nikolas Medrano, and Zach Bowers. The players’ GPAs range from 4.58 to 3.35.
BASKETBALL ALL TOURNEY TEAM and Tournament Championship
Congratulations to Vean Simon and Isaiah Somers for being named to the Black Hawk Holiday Invite All-Tournament Team. Special Congrats to Adrian Chandler for being named the tournament MVP. In addition to these individual honors, the team captured the Black Hawk Holiday Invite championship by completing the tournament 3-0 with wins over Campo Verde, Skyline, and Desert Ridge. Well done, Wolves!
GOLFER OF THE YEAR HONORABLE MENTION
Ty Templeton, CHS Senior, received honorable mention for the 2019 azcentral Sports Awards Boys Golfer of the Year. Ty was one of 13 Arizona high school golfers to be named finalist or receive honorable mention. In addition to playing golf, Ty is part of CHS’s IB Diploma Program and Student Council, and maintains a 4.6 GPA.
WOMEN’S LEAGUE REWARDS STUDENTS
In December, the East Valley Women’s League surprised Tim Schriver and Daniel Yanez with suits from Men’s Warehouse. Tim and Daniel were selected by their counselors and honored for their hard work and perseverance in the face of adversity. Congratulations, gentlemen!

ADVANCED ACADEMICS CLASSROOM VISITS
Mrs. Anne Bender, CHS’s Advanced Academics Coordinator, met with students in AP Comparative Govt. and AP Human Geo classes before break and gave them an overview of the core options available to them as juniors and seniors, and how the coursework they choose will impact their options after high school. Mrs. Bender will be speaking to students in detail about CHS’s IB programs when she visits Honors English 10 classes this month.

SENIOR PANORAMIC PHOTO
Parents/guardians and Seniors: Goldbeck Photography will here during 1st hour on Friday, February 1st, 2019 to take the annual senior panoramic photo in the courtyard.
Dress code is enforced; no hats, hoods, sunglasses, bandanas, no banners or signs, etc. will be permitted. It will be chilly so students should dress warmly. Goldbeck Photography will return on Monday, February 4th and Tuesday, February 5th during A&B Lunches to sell you your photos.

Juniors and seniors interested in learning about different career opportunities through hands-on and interactive activities should sign up in the Career Center by January 18th to attend Maricopa Community Colleges: Exploring Possibilities information session on February 1st.

You can submit your receipts online 24/7 at the school cents website. If you do not need your receipts returned, you can drop them in the CHS collection box located on the Upper Level bridge near Barnes & Noble, or you can bring them to Mrs. Claudio in the front office.
