The Malley Drive Messenger

September 2023

A Message From the Principal

September 1, 2023

Dear Malley Drive Families,

Thank you for a great start to an exciting year at Malley! It was wonderful seeing

many of our families for Back to School Night in August… we value each and every

one of you, and we are so glad you have chosen to send your students to Malley

Drive Elementary.

Our Malley Drive scholars have been very busy learning routines and procedures

and are highly engaged in learning with their new teachers! We will be hosting

Parent Teacher Conferences on the evenings of October 11th and 12th and are

excited to meet with families during that time to help strengthen the home/school

connection and build a partnership between teachers and parents. Be sure to look

for a sign up from your child’s teacher in mid-September.

I’d like to take a moment to highlight areas regarding school safety, homework,

and communication at Malley Drive. Please read the following notes and let us

know if you should have any questions.

New School Schedule 2023-2024: This school year we will no longer have an

early release on Wednesdays. School begins at 7:50 am and ends at 2:35 pm every day,

Monday through Friday.

Morning Arrival and Supervision: Students are welcome to arrive at 7:30 am for

breakfast, and enter through the front entrance. It is imperative that no student

arrive prior to 7:30 am, as there is no breakfast supervision before this time.

Outside supervision begins at 7:35 am, and students should not arrive prior to that

time. Our first bell will ring at 7:45 am, and the tardy bell rings at 7:50 am. Instruction

will begin promptly at 7:50 am, so it is important that our scholars arrive to school on

time and ready to learn.

When arriving in the morning it is important that scholars line up at their outside

classroom doors ready to learn. There is no playground supervision in the

mornings, and for the safety of all students, we ask that scholars not use the

playground equipment prior to school.

Afternoon Dismissal: School will be dismissed at 2:35 pm every day of the week.

Animals on Campus: We know that pets are part of our families and are well

loved! However, animals are not permitted on school grounds. For the safety of all

our students please leave your furry friends at home and do not bring them on

campus.

No Homework Policy: At Malley Drive Elementary, we believe evenings after

school should be spent playing outside, eating dinner as a family and reading

together. After our staff conducted much research on the effects of elementary

school homework, we found there to be little correlation between homework and

student performance. Therefore, Malley Drive will have a no homework policy for

the 2023-2024 school year. Scholar’s homework will only consist of makeup work

due to absences, interventions agreed upon by teacher and parent, and reading at

home each night.

Parents Right to Know Letter: All Title I Schools in the state of Colorado are

required to share the following letter with families. Please click this link for more

information. Title I Parents Right to Know
