4th Grade News
Mrs. Honiotes and Mrs. Ross 10-27-16
What We're Learning
Math - Unit 3 - The students are currently working with fractions. This concept can be a bit difficult, so please review with your child if needed. We have talked about how to make an equivalent fraction using a number line, using fraction boxes or using the rule of multiplying the numerator and denominator by the same number. Next week we will spend some time talking about comparing and ordering fractions both with like and unlike denominators before moving onto decimals.
Writing - Brochures will be the next unit of study. Students will create a brochure about a place that they know a lot about. In the first couple of weeks, students will immerse themselves in published brochures, make noticings about them, and enter the planning phase of the Writing Process.
Science - Students have participated in labs which simulate both physical and chemical weathering and its effects on rocks. After weathering, students will learn about the process of erosion and its effects on landforms.
Social Studies - Students just finished a unit of study on Geography. Look for information on our States Challenge coming up in November.
Science Lab Coats Needed!!
We still need more. There are currently only enough "lab coats" to cover one class at a time and many times, there are multiple science lessons being taught at the same time.
