2019-20 Budget Information

Our classroom staffing allocation will potentially decrease by 6.5 positions. This could change in the coming months as enrollment numbers settle and the budget picture becomes more clear.

The proposed budget that will be presented at the District Budget Committee meeting on Monday, April 22, will be reflective of:

  • An anticipated District-wide shortfall of $35 million for 2019-20

  • District-wide personnel reductions that include administrative, teacher and classified staff

  • A budget reduction of 15% across schools

  • An increase in student-teacher ratio/class sizes

We acknowledge that the principles of inquiry-based instruction, student voice, transdisciplinary learning, science, technology and global thinking are and will continue to be a great asset to BSD students and staff. The district will continue to work with our PYP, STEAM, EL schools to explore possibilities that allow for continued partnerships in the future.

I encourage all parents to stay informed of the BSD budget process and participate as you see fit. We are also dependent on Oregon State Legislative decisions that can either add to or detract from our funding estimates. Details of how you can give input to our legislators are available in this BSD Action Alert.

Dragons in the Spotlight

Congratulations to seniors Zachary Ramsey, Susheel Ravi and Adam Shinomiya who participated in the 2019 National Japan Bowl representing the Pacific Northwest earlier this month. This was an all expenses paid trip by JASO and students learned about Japanese culture and language.
ISB National Art Honor Society was also busy, putting on Art Blast at Terra Linda Elementary School on April 12. They joined STEAM Night, designing and facilitating four projects in which elementary students engaged. The event had good attendance and our students received positive feedback.

Student Test Results in ParentVUE

The administration of our state assessments is taking place between April 15 and June 1, 2019. State test scores will be available in ParentVUE! You will be able to see your child’s test results sooner than in prior years with less impact on the environment. For the English Language Arts and Math tests, a student’s score is available in ParentVUE two weeks after both parts of the test are completed. Due to the implementation of the new state science test this year, science scores will not be available until next fall after passing scores are identified by the Oregon Department of Education. The Testing Information tab in ParentVUE has links to additional information about your child’s scores. If you need assistance activating a ParentVUE account, please contact Margaret Lusk at ISB. Learn more about ParentVUE. Please note: these scores are not currently available in the ParentVUE phone app. Students whose parents/guardians do not have an active ParentVUE account will be mailed English Language Arts and Math test results over the summer. Students with at least one parent/guardian with ParentVUE access may request a printed report by contacting Kay Jenkins by email at kay_jenkins@beaverton.k12.or.us or by phone at 503.356.4594.

P.E. Student Survey - 8th Grade

In addition to data collection for the Carol White PE PEP grant, for the next three years all 5th and 8th grade students will be surveyed in an online nutrition and PE survey in order gather information for planning, program evaluation, and assessment of progress on the District’s Physical Education and nutrition plan. The student survey window is: April 24 - May 31.

  • The District is surveying 5th and 8th grade students to gather information for planning, program evaluation, and assessment of progress on the District’s Physical Education and nutrition plan.

  • The student survey takes about 20 minutes during the regular school day. Like other surveys, results will be presented only about groups. No individual data will be reported.

  • Your child may skip questions or stop filling out the survey at any time. Refusing to participate or withdrawing from the survey does not affect your child's grades or class standing in any way. If you or your child does not want to participate, your child can read or do some other activity while his or her classmates complete the survey.

  • A copy of the survey is available from your child's school and is posted at https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/district/research-reports

  • After reviewing the survey, if you do not want your child to participate, please notify your child’s teacher.
