COVID-19 Symptom Monitoring
Displaying Symptoms at School
Students Should Stay Home When Sick
To that end, Upper Moreland is committed to flexible attendance policies for students that include relaxing our truancy reporting for students who remain home and bring in a parent or doctor note reporting an illness.
Please keep your child at home if they are sick. Sending a sick child to school endangers all students and staff members.
COVID-19 Symptom List
People with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19:
- Fever or chills (Temperature over 100.4)
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Fatigue
- Muscle or body aches
- Headache
- New loss of taste or smell
- Sore throat
- Congestion or runny nose
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea
When A Student Becomes Ill at School
Upper Moreland School District is committed to keeping all students safe and therefore, we are taking extreme measures to ensure that students who display symptoms do not remain in the building where they make infect others.
Please make sure that you identify several emergency contacts who are able to quickly pick up your student should they display symptoms of the COVID-19 virus.
Students who remain in the school nurse office past the 30 minute time table may be subject to reporting through the Children and Youth Agency and the Montgomery County Department of Health.
IMPORTANT: For all students who chronically display symptoms from the CDC list due to ongoing health issues, you must provide a health plan from your physician documenting the issue, providing steps to alleviate the symptoms, and how to differentiate the symptoms from those of COVID 19. School dismissals are at the sole discretion of the school nurse.
When to Seek Emergency Medical Attention
Look for emergency warning signs* for COVID-19. If someone is showing any of these signs, seek emergency medical care immediately:
- Trouble breathing
- Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
- New confusion
- Inability to wake or stay awake
- Bluish lips or face
*This list is not all possible symptoms. Please call your medical provider for any other symptoms that are severe or concerning to you.
Call 911 or call ahead to your local emergency facility: Notify the operator that you are seeking care for someone who has or may have COVID-19.
