GOODNOE GAZETTE
August 12, 2022 Welcome Back to School Edition
I hope this email finds you enjoying a break from school routines and opportunities to make wonderful memories with family and friends. My transition to Goodnoe the past three weeks have truly been wonderful! I would like to thank the GES PTO for hosting the recent Popsicles with the Principal event. I had the pleasure of meeting many students and families. To say that everyone has made me feel so welcome is an understatement. I sincerely appreciate your kindness and look forward to getting to know the Goodnoe school community in the coming weeks.
Mark your calendar! We look forward to welcoming new and returning students during the upcoming orientations/meet and greets on Thursday, August 25th (see below for greater details). The first day of school for all students in kindergarten through sixth grades is Monday, August 29th.
I will be sending out the Goodnoe Gazette on a weekly basis. The current newsletter focuses on GES staffing updates as well as important Home Access Center (HAC) information. On Monday, August 15th, you will be able to obtain teacher and transportation assignments in HAC. Next week's newsletter will contain pertinent start-of-school information and procedures. We are excited to see all of our students soon and look forward to seeing the families who can join us on August 25th.
Enjoy the remaining weeks of summer!
Beth

A Note about Teacher Assignments and Class Lists:
Many hours go into the creation of class lists. Our goal is to develop lists that consider the following factors: individual student academic needs, social characteristics, emotional factors, possible personality conflicts, the number of students with specialized needs, and to limit student scheduling conflicts. Families had an opportunity to provide input in the spring, and this information was considered as just one of many important factors.
There are times when the office is contacted by families after the opening of HAC with requests to change the placement of their child. Please know that I always try to be flexible, but I am very reluctant to make these changes. Revisions can negatively impact other children, and it's important to note that there are considerations for placing other children that you may not know. If a change needs to be made, it will be the result of something significant that happened to a child since the end of the last school year. In advance, thank you for your understanding and cooperation with this process.
Updating Demographic Information:
At the start of every school year, the Council Rock School District requires parents/guardians to verify their demographic information through the Home Access Center (HAC).
It is important to know that District/School Notifications, Emergency Contacts, Medication Authorization information, etc. are directly dependent upon your completion of this process.
To update your student’s demographic form:
- Login to HAC.
- Click on “Update Registration”
- Click on “NEW” in the middle of the screen to open the Demographic Update Form 2022.
HAC Support:
If you encounter any issues while trying to log into HAC, please click this LINK to contact HAC support.
Transportation Information
- Transportation and bus information will be communicated through the HAC and available on August 15th
- Our new service provider is Durham Transportation. Council Rock is working with Durham to make sure all bus routes are fully staffed
- Safety features on our buses this year include front- and rear-facing cameras inside the bus, updated GPS, and two-way radios
- 56 of our larger buses are propane-fueled and air-conditioned. For the 2023-24 school year, all buses will be propane-fueled
- Durham supports a Bus Tracker app that you can download onto your device, enabling you to live track your student’s bus. Learn more and sign up at Durham Bus Tracker

Free/Reduced Lunch and Internet Information
For any student to be considered for free or reduced-price meals for the 2022-23 school year, an application must be completed to determine eligibility. Please be aware that the COVID lunch waiver received for all elementary students to receive free lunch that has been in effect the past three years HAS NOT been granted this upcoming school year. To apply for free or reduced-price lunch:
- Visit https://www.compass.state.pa.us/compass.web/Public/CMPHome to apply online (includes language options other than English)
- Click on this link to download a paper copy of the 2022-23 Free and Reduced Lunch Application
- Pick up a paper copy of the application at Chancellor Center or at any school office
- More eligibility information is available on the Council Rock website
If not applying online via COMPASS, please email your completed application to kmoody@crsd.org or mail to Council Rock School District, Attn: Free and Reduced Lunch Program/Karen Moody, 30 N. Chancellor St., Newtown, PA 18940. Persons with disabilities who require alternative means of communication for program information (e.g., Braille, large print, audiotape, American Sign Language, etc.), should contact the Agency (State or local) where they applied for benefits. Individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing or have speech disabilities may contact USDA through the Federal Relay Service at (800) 877-8339. Additionally, program information may be made available in languages other than English. Additional support is available for internet access. Please click the links below to learn more.
Student Dismissal Plan 2022-2023
Making sure your child is safe is of utmost importance to us. It is very important that we know your dismissal plan. If your plans change during the course of the year, please send your child’s teacher a note so the office can be notified of the change. On the note, please include your child’s name, day of week for the change, method of transportation, start date and end date (if any).
If you need to make a “one-time” change to your dismissal plans, please send a note in the morning with your child. Please include the following information on the note:
Date of dismissal change
Child’s first and last name
Method your child should go home (ie: car, walk, bike, bus, Champions, etc.)
If your child will be going home with a different parent, include that parent’s name
If you have a change in dismissal that arises during the day, please do not email that teacher. Instead, you should call the office directly and they will let the classroom teacher know of the change. We ask that you call the office and not email this information for a few reasons. Sometimes our internet is down and we may not be able to access email that day and therefore would miss your message. Similarly, we do not always get to check emails until after dismissal has occurred or we are absent and we would not have been aware of your message until after 4:00PM.
Please click on the following FORM or click on the button directly below to access a form where you can note how your child will dismiss daily. Please complete this form no later than Wednesday, August 24th.
