Annapolis Elementary E-Newsletter
April 2020
A Note from Mrs. Kesecker:
Dear Annapolis Gator Families,
WE ARE A COMMUNITY OF HOPE!
HOPE is the expectation that everything will work out and the feeling that things will be all right. We have entered a very challenging time in our world’s history. Our everyday life has been turned upside down. You and your student may be feeling a sense of loss for the usual routine, safety of school, activities, and connectedness to teachers and other students. The staff at AES are feeling that as well. We miss you, your smiles, positivity, laughter, curiosity, and so much more! However, the one thing that no one, or thing, can ever take away from us is HOPE. If ever there was a man who knew struggle, it was Martin Luther King, Jr. One of his best quotes is, "We must accept finite disappointment, but we must never lose infinite hope."
One thing about our AES community is that we have a strong belief in HOPE, and we will not surrender our HOPE. I encourage everyone in our Kids at HOPE community to live by Dr. King’s powerful, HOPEful words.
At this time, it is my HOPE, that all of you are safe and healthy. It is my HOPE that you are among family, enjoying this time to reconnect with one another in a positive way. It is my HOPE that you are taking care of yourself. It is my HOPE that you are extending grace and patience to all during these times of uncertainty.
My challenge to you now is to be that “one” who continues to hold on to HOPE and speaks HOPEful things, even in these times of strife. After all, there's tremendous power in our words and thoughts!
In HOPEful partnership,

Online Learning
Google Classroom & E-Learning at AES
Throughout the week, students will be using Google Classroom and Google Meet to continue learning and completing assignments for all of their classes. Students will also be given many opportunities to connect with their teachers. While you will see many hours where teachers are available, your child is not required to be e-learning for all hours each teacher is available. Blocks of time are available each day so that students have the ability to visit the teachers they need to receive help in multiple areas. Each of your child's teachers will have schedules in their Google Classroom with which times their teachers will be available to help in a variety of subjects. We hope that you find that teachers have provided schedules with plenty of time and flexibility to meet your child's educational needs. It is highly encouraged that you help your child to develop an "online school" schedule to ensure that they are completing all of their work for their classroom teacher, cultural arts classes, and any other classes they are involved in. Please refer to the AACPS Suggested Daily Schedule For Students to help you in this endeavor (Click Here for Spanish Version).
Students should access E-Learning materials by first logging into Google Chrome, and then to Google Classroom. For instructions on how to do this, click here (Elementary Learning Resources) and then select your child's grade level. Students should have already been added to the Google Classrooms that apply to them! When they log in to Google Classroom, they should see at least two classrooms; One for their classroom teacher and one for Cultural Arts. The Cultural Arts classroom will contain assignments and learning opportunities for Art, Music, PE, STEM and Media classes. Some students will have additional classrooms listed for additional classes and services including ESOL, Special Ed and Band or Strings. If students have not been added to a classroom that they should be in, you can find the class codes for each teacher and class below! Students should log in to their classrooms for further instructions!
As we're all working through this new learning experience, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teachers for help if you have any questions or concerns! We will figure it out together!

Imagine Learning
To the parents of ESOL students in grades 3-5:
Great news! Your child now has access to Imagine Learning, an online language and literacy development program. It is a fun, individualized program that builds academic language in English. As your child completes activities, I will be able to see their progress and provide them with targeted feedback and support.
Students can now access the program through ClassLink. Here is a link to a video that gives detailed directions in Spanish: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Nh3D4f3h6LOUPULLbXwAZEVDHMV2tOWZ/view?usp=sharing
Please encourage your child to spend about an hour a week on the program. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me by email amcgee@aacps.org or on Google Classroom (in English or in Spanish).
Stay safe and healthy!

The Children's Guild Mental Health Minute
I hope that all AES students and families are doing well and finding time to practice mindfulness and self care.
For children and families that are involved in services with The Children’s Guild, individual and family therapy sessions ARE continuing through this unusual and challenging time using Telehealth services. I have been in communication with many of you, and truly appreciate your flexibility and openness to change. If we have not been able to connect yet, please reach out! I am here for you and your family as a support, advocate, and of course mental healthcare provider! ! I will continue to make efforts to connect as well. It is my goal to continue to provide the same level of therapeutic support and intervention to your children and family as I do when we are all under the same roof at AES!
For families that are not a part of The Children’s Guild program, but may have questions or concerns, or need resources during this time, please contact a member of the AES mental health team (Mrs. Beckman, Mr. Stickel, Mrs. Kuhnlein) and we will work together to support you!
All the best,
