Maggie Dever and Leah Nash named Cape Country's Cape Codders of the Month
Congratulations to Leah and Maggie! They were named CO-Cape Codders of the month and won a $100 thank you gift along with Cape Codder Of The Month Certificates, gift cards to Ten Pin Eatery and t-shirts.
The story of Maggie and Leah was covered in the January 8th edition of Friday Focus: "The week before Christmas the girls basketball team found out about a Barnstable student who was pretty badly hurt in a car accident while looking at lights with his family. The team, led by Captains Leah Nash and Maggie Dever, collected money and bought both birthday, as his birthday was around the same time, and Christmas gifts for this young boy, Hunter Bradford. Maggie and Leah then visited his house and delivered the gifts on behalf of the girls basketball team. Both Hunter and his family are forever grateful and would like the team to be recognized. This is a perfect example of how selfless and giving our student athletes are. Well done Girls Basketball! Thank you for leading by example."

MRHS Wild Life Hero!
During the first week of February, one of our wonderful caring staff members, Candace Wolcott, found a sea duck in the middle of a nearby busy road unable to move very well. She stopped her car and placed it on an embankment, then went home to get a box. After a quick text from Candace, I was able to take this beautiful bird out of the back of her car and drive it to WildCare in Eastham for treatment.
Unfortunately, though this bird had the best of care, its blood work never improved and they felt the duck was most likely ill before she found it and NOT hit by a car.
We want to thank Candace Wolcott for helping this wild duck which we learned did live about a week before passing. Candace is our Wildlife Hero for the month of February, 2021!
Our MRHS Animal Welfare Club plans to mention these caring people from our school who help and rescue these precious animals in our area!
