English Landing Health & Safety

Back To School Special Edition-2021

Our Number One Priority

The number one priority at English Landing Elementary is the health and safety of our students and staff. We have worked countless hours to revise our current safety plans as we prepare to welcome our students and staff back in the building. Please keep in mind that our plan could change as we receive more information and guidance from public health officials. We will notify you if we make changes. Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we navigate another unique school year.

Health Guidelines For Students And Staff

If a student or staff member is sick, it is more important than ever that they stay home. Please help keep our community safe by being cautious and staying away, even if you think an illness could be allergies.

Students and staff should screen for these symptoms each day:

  • Fever or chills
  • According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, a fever is 100.4 or greater
  • Cough
  • Rash
  • Sore throat
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Loss of taste or smell

Quarantines

We are working with the health department to determine current rules about quarantines. We will provide updates when we have them. We do know that if you are fully vaccinated, you will not need to quarantine after an exposure.

Health Room

Our school nurse, Julie Brockman, will use all of the recommended health guidelines if a child is sent to the health room with Covid-19 symptoms. Nurse Julie and our custodial staff will take all necessary precautions to keep our health room clean and safe.

  • frequent hand washing, use of sanitizer, use of gloves
  • visitors will wash their hands upon entering and exiting the health room
  • masks will be strongly encouraged
  • proper PPE will be worn if necessary
  • cots, chairs, and other surfaces will be cleaned and disinfected between staff/student visits and throughout the day as needed
  • custodial staff will clean and disinfect as part of their regular cleaning routine

Basic Building Procedures

ALL students and staff will be required to wear masks when in the building. Masks are not necessary during recess or while eating or drinking.

Students will eat lunch at assigned classroom tables. A seating chart will be created to help with contact tracing if needed. Students will be spaced out as much as possible.

For the safety of our students and staff, visitors will not be allowed in the building during the school day. Only school district employees are allowed to enter English Landing Elementary during school hours. Unfortunately this means no lunch or classroom visitors-even on the first day of school. If you need to bring something to school or talk with our nurse, one of our administrative assistants can meet you in our lobby and assist you.

Please see the updated 5 Pillars of Safety included below for more details.

Classrooms

Classrooms will be set up to ensure maximum safety, following suggested social distance guidelines to the best of our ability. Students can work in groups this year within the classroom. Students will remain with their cohort group throughout the day. Recess is the only exception to this rule. Students will be allowed to play with students from other classrooms. Students will use their own school supplies as much as possible. If it is absolutely necessary for students to share supplies and other materials, these will be cleaned between student use. Students will be encouraged to wash their hands frequently. Hand sanitizer will be available in every classroom.

Special Events

At this time, we do plan to have musical performances, after school clubs, back to school night, and a few other after school/evening events. Attendance at these events will be limited. Any after school event will require a safety plan. We will share specific details for each planned event with families.
