Mrs. Stevenson's Message
Dear Parents,
We have had a busy January. The teachers have been working hard and focusing on their planning while analyzing current data on Wednesdays during Professional Learning Communities (PLC). I am so proud of their collaborative efforts as they plan for next steps after looking at ACUITY, NWEA, and MOY DIBELS data to make purposeful instructional decisions. As South Creek teachers are planning they make sure the students know the learning objective, use the gradual release of responsibility model, foster a positive classroom environment, are prepared, check for understanding, and ensure students are engaged.
The students have also been working hard and displaying their South Creek gator spirit through their academic work and positive behavior. The students have been focusing on their reading fluency and reading accuracy all year and the data shows it! At the beginning of the year our reading accuracy was 78% and has increased to 84% at the middle of the year. At the beginning of the year our reading fluency was 80% and has increased to 83% at the middle of the year. Way to go ! Thank you for practicing and encouraging reading at home!
Save the Date: Come chat with the principal ( no agenda ) on Friday, February 24th from 7:45- 8:30 a.m. in the LGI room. Coffee and danishes will be served.
South Creek is a school of hope, guided by knowledge, inspired by love.
Toni Stevenson, Principal

Cookies and Canvas by Reece Koomler
Hey kids! Guess what special event is going on, on February 3rd! Our school is having a fundraiser called cookies and canvas. It is where you paint canvases and eat lots of cookies with milk.
Last year I went and all my friends were there, and I had a blast. You get to paint a picture on a canvas! How much fun is that!
I hope you have fun!
Changes in the New Year by Faith Smith
Recipe of the Month by Katy Walker
Hey Gators! I’m back with another recipe. But this time i’m going to be asking a teacher what her favorite recipe is! The teacher that I am interviewing is Mrs.Hayes! Her favorite recipe is Creamy Chicken Soup.
3 chicken breasts
1 ½ cups of rice or a small package of egg noodles
1 can of cream of chicken soup
1 can of cream of celery soup
Salt and pepper to taste
½ stick of butter
1 ½ cups of milk
Boil chicken until tender. Remove from broth and shred. Add rice (or noodles) to boiling broth and cook on low for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add cream of chicken, cream of celery, salt, pepper, and butter. Then stir. Add shredded chicken and simmer on low for 30 minutes. Add milk and stir.
*Mrs.Hayes has lots of recipes that she really likes, but this is her favorite quick and easy soup for winter!
Mrs Webb's Wonderful Interview by Teegan Quick
Hey Gators! Guess what! It is already February! WOW time flies when you are having fun! And to prove that I decided to ask Mrs Webb, what fun she and her class is having! The first thing I wanted to know is if she has given out any positive office referrals? I also wanted to know what are some crafts they are doing? Then I wanted to know if her class has any fun plans for the rest of the school year? And the last thing I wanted to know is of course if time is flying in her classroom! Well, thank you Mrs Webb, for giving us some info about your class and how much you are having fun!
And thank YOU Gators of South Creek Elementary for letting us, the Gator Gazette, know how you are liking the school year! And do me one last favor…….. Work hard during the rest of the 2017 school year!
GROUNDHOGS DAY by Brody Gilliam
Groundhogs Day is a tradition in America.
If the sky is cloudy on Groundhog Day then spring comes early. If the groundhog sees its shadow then it is still winter. Some states adopted their own groundhog. Groundhogs Day is special. Lots of people are excited that winter is leaving and spring is coming. Some are kind of sad that winter is leaving. Anyway, Groundhogs day is really special.Valentine’s Day by Dayla Craig
Hey Gators Valentine Day is coming! Valentine’s Day is where you find someone that you like and you ask them to be your Valentine. But for us Gators, we do parties and celebrate it with friends and I can’t forget about our Teachers. We love our friends and family here at South Creek.
