We are excited to gather your feedback and interest level for participating in the National History Day (NHD). Each year NHD frames students’ research within a historical theme. The theme is chosen for its broad application to world, national or state history and its relevance to ancient history or to the more recent past. The 2021-2022 theme is Debate& Diplomacy in History: Successes, Failures, Consequences. The theme provides a focused way to increase students’ historical understanding and an opportunity to develop perspective and understanding rather than merely being able to cite facts and figures. Through participation in this program, students in grades 4-12 become amateur historians on their journey to discover the significance of their chosen historical topic. Click on the flyer below to sign up!

Volunteer Opportunities

We're excited to get your feedback and gauge your student's interest in participating in the President's Volunteer Service Award. This award honors individuals whose service positively impacts communities in every corner of the nation and inspires those around them to take action, too.

We would like to offer this opportunity to our students in grades K - 12th. Once the interest level has been determined we'll send out additional instructions. Click on the flyer to sign up!

  • A variety of instructional strategies (Visual strategies, Direct Instruction, Discrete Trial) are being used and are based on the skills being taught and the student’s strengths

  • Task analysis with forward or backward scaffolding used when appropriate

  • Data is collected and progress is documented on an ongoing basis

We strongly encourage families to sign up for the waitlist. Waitlists allow us to gauge the demand for popular trips and schedule additional trips for future dates. Families that sign up for the waitlist will be given priority booking for the future trip.

    • All students must be accompanied on school-organized field trips by an adult chaperone; we do not offer drop-off field trips!

      • Please make sure to add a chaperone ticket when booking field trips for your student(s)!

    • Due to limited space and availability, we can only allow one chaperone per family.

      • Depending on the venue, it may be possible to purchase additional tickets directly from the venue.

        • We cannot guarantee additional tickets will be available through the venue.

        • Any tickets purchased directly from the venue may be a higher cost and will be separate from the school field trip.

    • Non-enrolled siblings may attend field trips (provided there are no age restrictions for the particular field trip/venue).

    • Siblings between 2-4 years old -- Tickets must be purchased on the FTE site.

    • Siblings under 2 -- If there is a ticket cost for children under 2, the tickets must be purchased directly from the venue.

Please be sure to check the field trip details carefully regarding any age restrictions for the particular field trip before booking!

    • Field trips are considered an extension of the school, and therefore we are required to follow local county and state COVID guidelines, in addition to the venue's COVID guidelines. Masks will be required for all indoor field trips or if the venue requires them.

      • If you or your student has a medical exemption from wearing a mask, we will require proof of the medical exemption. A face shield with a drape will be required in lieu of a mask for those with a documented medical exemption.

    • All field trip purchases are final. If you are unable to attend a field trip, please notify us in advance. We cannot provide refunds for cancellation requests or no shows.

So when we hear the question, “How do you not go crazy being with your kids all the time?!” it’s not that we don’t go crazy. We just know how to deal with the crazy. Today I am going to share with you 5 ways to make your life as a homeschool parent a little bit easier.

Yvonne Kahlen - OC Family Liaison

I have been a homeschooling mom for seventeen years. I have three children ranging in age from 17 to 22. I homeschooled my two oldest from Kindergarten through 12th grade. My youngest is currently a senior in high school at Cabrillo Point Academy and taking college courses concurrently. I am passionate about homeschooling and love that you can tailor your curriculum to your child’s learning style. I am excited to work with other homeschooling parents and look forward to meeting you at an event soon! Happy schooling!

Maria Ramirez - OC Special Programs Family Liaison

Hi, I am a Mother of 4 sons, and grandma of 3 little ones. I learned about homeschooling about 5 years ago and I loved the whole concept. I homeschooled my youngest son and he loved it! I wish I had known this way of teaching when my other sons were little. I love helping families to thrive, and be successful! I am here to help you in any way I can.
