Red Storm Forecast
Stonybrook Middle School June 2018 Summer Edition
Message from Mr. Day
Just like that, another school year comes to a finish! We hope that your children found many wonderful moments in the month of May to build great memories at Stonybrook Middle School! After we completed both ISTEP+ and NWEA, we had a number of events that celebrated the talents of our students. Between the musical, baseball game trip, and CORE activity days, cookout and awards program, the month of May moved quickly!
As you enter summer vacation and look forward to the following school year, we have provided some information in this edition of the newsletter to help you prepare. We look forward to the Classes of 2023 and 2024 during our July 18th registration day and on July 30th - the first day of school!
Please note the office will close on July 8th at 3 PM and reopen on July 9th at 7:30 AM.
Go Red Storm!
Mr. Nathan Day

Summer Learning Tips
No matter their age, it's important for all kids to keep learning over the summer. This tip sheet will show families some ways to keep youth learning over the summer. NSLA also has tips to keep kids active and healthy and ideas for learning at home and in your community. Click the link to see all of NSLA's resources for families! Also, communities' participation in National Summer Learning Day sends a powerful message across the nation that summers matter and offers your community an opportunity to showcase that summer learning can and does make a difference in the lives of young people. Looking for a Job? Need a Work Permit?
Before Stonybrook Middle School can issue a work permit to a student, the student must first find a job. Once a student has been told by an employer that they would like to hire the student, please bring the INTENTION TO EMPLOY or Intent to Employ card to Stonybrook. We cannot issue a work permit without the Intention to Employ form.
Summer Procedure for Work Permits?
Middle School students may obtain a work permit from the Walker Career Center office during summer hours. Walker Career Center is located at: 9651 E 21st Street (Near WCHS football field) phone # 317-532-6150 Hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM - 9:00 PM and on Fridays 7:00 AM until 4:00 PM. Submitting the documents after 9:00 AM will result in a 24-hour processing time.
