All About William Mclntosh!
(1775 -1825) William was the Creek chief who sold the last of his people's land when he signed the Treaty of Indian Springs. The United States paid 200,000 to cede the last Creek land in Georgia to the federal government. Of course, many of the Creek Indians were very upset that their beloved land was sold. In result of their anger, they set his home on fire. They also shot, stabbed, and scalped him to death.
John Ross
Ross was the chief of the Cherokee during the Trail of Tears. His main goal was to protect his peoples' land just like any other chief. Ross protected their land by appealing to the US Congress.
Alexander McGilivray
Alexander was a proud chief of the Creek Indians. He lead in the Oconee War to keep his peoples' land. After the war some one the land was given away in the Treaty of New York.
Andrew Jackson
Jackson was the president during the American Removal. In the Supreme Court Case Worcester v. Georgia he refused to honor, but yet he signed the Indian Removal Act. For this Act he placed Native American tribes out west in Indian Territory.
Dahlonega Gold Rush
The Dahlonega Gold Rush was discovered in 1829. It was the year of great discovery of gold. The 1st gold mining center, in the US, was i located in Lumpkin County. December 1829, a second law passed that refused the Cherokee any right to gold mine in Dahlonega.
