Stress and Anxiety
Stress - the reaction of the body and mind to everyday challenges and demands
Eustress (+) - stress that motivates you to give you best effort. Body gives off extra energy
Negative Stress (-) - losing sleep after an argument
Anxiety- the condition of feeling uneasy or worried about what may happen next.
Types of stressors
- Biological - illness, disability, injury
- Environmental - poverty, pollution , natural disasters, noise
- Cognitive - perception of situations
- Personal behavior - using tobacco, drugs, alcohol, or lack physical activity
- Life Situations - death, divorce, trouble in relationships
Stress Response
Alarm - body and mind on heart alert (fight or flight)
Resistance - body adapts to "rush"
fight: ability to resist a physical challenge or attack may be enhanced
flight: may be able to run faster and further than normal to escape danger
Fatigue - body gets tired
Physical: muscles tired, leading to soreness and pain
Stress Management
1. Take a walk
2. Call a friend
3. Write in a journal
4. Work up a sweat
5. Plan something fun
6. Take a hot bath
Take a Walk
When you take a walk. You are getting away from to problem. You just need to be alone by yourself to think and clear your head.
Talk to a friend
You should always have someone to talk to. Even if they can't or don't talk back. At least you are talking to someone.
Kick Boxing
Kick Boxing is a good way to manage you stress be letting you anger and stress out by hitting a punching bag.
Symptoms of Anxiety
- Feelings of fear or dread
- Perception, restlessness, or muscle tension
- Rapid heart rate, lightheadedness, short of breath
What are ways you practice Resiliency
- Pump up your positivity
- Live to Learn
- Open your heart
- Take care of yourself
- Hang on to humor
What are different things that could negatively impact your Resiliency?
Family
- pressure you to always do your best
- yelling
- blaming you for everything
- telling you do everything wrong
- calling you fat and overweight
School
- grades
- fitting in
- having teachers like you
- lots of homework
- studying for tests
Peers
- making sure you say the right things
- peer pressure
- not being yourself to fit in
