Principal's Note...
Character education is something that we consider to be incredibly important at MMES. This week, we focused our School-Wide Morning Meeting on the core value of "acceptance." We have discussed this concept with the students in the past in terms of accepting others' differences and appreciating diversity. Mrs. Carlson and Mrs. Dodge teamed up to put a different spin on the concept. See the write-up by Ms. Silag below...it was a very memorable school-wide meeting!
MMES alum Tim Brown inspired Memorial School's staff and students at the school's recent Community Gathering about one of the MMES core values, Acceptance. Tim discussed how he had accepted his life after a ski accident at the age of 25 left him paralyzed below the shoulders, as well as the importance of accepting those around him. Despite his challenges he still enjoys surfing, skiing, snowboarding and soon hopes to be able to drive on his own. He is truly a homegrown inspiration in MBTS and the audience was mesmerized listening to him share his story and answer students' questions. Two of Tim's former teachers, Ms. Gould and Mrs. Colpoys were especially thrilled to see him!
The staff and students left the meeting feeling inspired and motivated to accept life's curve balls and make the best of every day and every moment. Thank you to Mr. Brown for sharing his story with us!
We also had a special visit from our new fire chief who wanted to introduce himself to our staff and students along with reminding them about "ice safety." His message to the students was that it is impossible to know if ice on rivers, ponds, and lakes is thick enough to go on, so best to stay off of any ice other than skating rinks.
Have a great weekend...go PATS!
Best,
John
