SHISD Mid-Week Message
Weekly Superintendent's Message for Spring Hill ISD
Busy Month Ahead
May is also a month for celebrations. The SH Education Foundation gave out over $20,000 in grants. Thank you to Patti Miller and the SHEF board for your generosity!
This weekend was the Junior Senior Prom and thanks to a great group of parents, our students and their guests had a terrific after prom event at Air U. The students had a lot of fun, several won prizes, and most importantly stayed safe.
SHISD also will compete in baseball playoffs starting this weekend. Blake Zeilinger and Kavin Patel will represent SH in the state tennis tournament, and the girls golf team will compete at the state tournament in Marble Falls this month.
Our test scores are good, but we are so much more.
With Great Pride,
Steven Snell, Superintendent
Kudos:
"I attended one of my student's soccer games this weekend, and I wanted to share with you that her dad said that he "Would not send his three kids to any other school in our area other than Spring Hill." I thought that was a compliment worth sharing!" - Mrs. Cloud, 3rd grade
Mr. Snell, I would like to brag on Cathy Reed! This Wonder Woman not only
takes care of my department and me. She works endless hours to take
care of every department and every employee at S.H.I.S.D. Cannot list
all the things that this miracle worker does in a day. Not enough
paper to do that! Thank you Cathy for all your Hard work and Dedication for the
school I love" Spring Hill I.S.D." Best regards, Janet Albright

The Spring Hill ISD Education Foundation was created in the fall of 2005 to support and enhance the education of all students in the Spring Hill Independent School District. It is a 501c(3) non-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors representing a cross-section of citizens who are dedicated to education and share a vision for excellence in our schools.
The Foundation exists:
· to provide opportunities for the community to financially support educational excellence in the Spring Hill ISD.
· to promote and facilitate funding of creative and innovative educational programs in our District.
· to encourage students and staff through positive reinforcement of educational activities and to provide a perpetual source of funds for staff and students for years to come.
We appreciate the generous donors of our Spring Hill and Longview community. Without their vision and bold giving, we would not be able to award these innovative, educational technologies to these deserving teachers and students.

T-TESS --- Important info from TEA
Agreement Affirms Key Components of Teacher Evaluations in Texas
AUSTIN – Commissioner of Education Mike Morath said today that all major components of the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) remain in place following an agreed legal agreement with various teacher organizations in the state. Student growth will remain part of statutorily-required teacher appraisal systems in either the state-recommended system or a locally-developed system a school district may wish to adopt.
T-TESS, the Commissioner-recommended teacher evaluation system for the state, is a system designed by educators to support teachers in their professional growth. The system includes three components: a goal-setting and professional development plan for the teacher; a specific evaluation cycle (including: pre-conference, observation, post-conference); and information on how well a teacher’s students grow in knowledge and skills throughout the year.
“The profession of teaching is incredibly demanding,” said Commissioner Morath. “It requires dedication and energy, but it also requires a commitment to continuously learn and adjust. In designing T-TESS, we relied heavily on input from teachers who wanted meaningful feedback on how well students are learning, so they could strengthen classroom instruction.”
Under the agreement, the student growth measure remains part of teacher appraisals. The Commissioner will remove the reference to the four ways to measure student growth to ensure that districts are clear about the flexibility they have in choosing how student growth is measured. Commissioner Morath noted that this flexibility is important. Determining how much growth students have achieved in an art class, for example, may involve a review of a student’s portfolio of work. On the other hand, math teachers may benefit more from feedback based on calculations of how much value was added between math assessments.
The agreement also confirmed the requirement that every Texas school district appraise each teacher based on how that specific individual teacher’s students progress academically, as opposed to solely giving feedback to an individual teacher based on the growth of all students at a school. This applies to both the Commissioner’s appraisal system and any local appraisal system a school district may wish to adopt.
The Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System has been piloted in more than 200 school districts and charters around the state. It is currently being used in more than 1,000 school districts. To learn more about T-TESS, visit the Texas Education Agency’s web page at
