Have questions about School Finance? So do we...
You're paying more taxes. Think you know where your property taxes go? Check your perceptions against this real information. The state takes 34% of your property taxes designated for Plano ISD. As your property taxes increase, the state's share of funding public education continues to decrease. You are paying more and your children's schools are getting less.
The state's funding for education has failed to keep pace with inflation and population growth. In fact adjusted for inflation, the state's funding per student is $1,172 less today than it was a decade ago. Even with no increase to the Plano ISD tax rate, property values continue to rise and the state continues to take more. In 2019, Plano ISD will collect $46M more in property taxes than the previous year. That entire increase and then some (117%) will be sent to the state. Plano ISD's total Robin Hood recapture payments will exceed $1.9 billion in 2018-19. In the last four years, the annual payment has increased by 248%.
What is taxparency? Taxparency is a grassroots effort by Texas public school districts to provide the public with transparency into how their tax dollars are being spent on public school education, and raise awareness to the public school funding crisis. The Plano ISD Board of Trustees believes Plano ISD taxpayers have a right to know how their tax dollars are being spent, including which portion of their property taxes are locally retained and which portion is paid to the State as recapture.
