Hawks Happenings Monthly Newsletter
May 2022 Edition
Principal's Corner: Down the stretch!
Hello Hawks families,
As we prepare for the start of May, we know that these last few weeks of the school year truly fly by. Before we know it, summer will be on our doorsteps!
This month we will continue to have our 10th and 11th grade students engage in state required SBAC testing in Mathematics and Science. Students are also, across the board, going to have their final projects and their culminating learning activities, with due dates that will be here before they know it. Now is the time for students to plan ahead! We have a thriving snack-filled after school Academic Lab staffed with tutors for students who need to stay after school to get caught up, or need a little extra help. We also have the ability to transport home students with our 21st century partnership if students want to stay after school for help but need a ride home.
We also want our parents to note that we are seeing an increase in stress levels with our students. In the last few weeks, the number of students who have come down to talk to our counselors has been the highest it's been all year. A lot of students are feeling stressed, and we want to make sure they have the support they need to thrive!
Teacher and Nurse appreciation is the first week in May as well, May 2-6. Our teachers and nurses are amazing, and we truly appreciate everything that they do to help raise the kids in our community. We have some treats and other goodies planned for our teachers next week, but I know if you have a minute to drop some of them an email thanking them for what they do, it would be an incredibly kind gesture and well received by our staff!
In this edition of the Hawks Happenings newsletter there is information about upcoming musical concerts, Prom, Graduation commencement, and much more!
If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to us at 509-522-3312.

Class of 2022 Graduation Commencement Information and other Senior Events
College Place High School is excited to celebrate this year's senior class, the Class of 2022. Our Graduation commencement ceremony will be on Saturday, June 11 at 7:00pm, here at the College Place High School Stadium.
Families are encouraged to arrive early to accommodate the anticipated high volume of parking needs. We have partnered with Wal-Mart as an overflow parking area, and have asked our staff to park off-site as well. We are asking our graduates to arrive at 6:15pm that evening in preparation for the ceremony.
There will be no limitation to the number of guests each student can invite to Graduation. Our stadium facilities will also include ground level chair seating for the elderly or those who prefer this option. We will also provide Spanish translation receivers for our Spanish speaking families.
We anticipate a wonderful summer evening sunset as the backdrop to this event, however, should the weather forecast look unfavorable, we will communicate with the graduates and their families if we need to move the ceremony indoors.
The ceremony will also be livestreamed on our NFHS platform. Here is the link, which we will also post on our social media platforms and school website. [Link: CPHS Graduation Commencement 2022]
We also ask that guests refrain from bringing noisemakers to our event, as we want to ensure each graduates name is heard when they cross the stage.

Cell Phone Usage Ramping Up in Classes!
We have a three strike policy for progressive cell phone discipline. The first offense is an administrative conference with the student and principal, the second offense means a student will have to turn in their cell pone to the office for the remainder of the day, and the third offense means they turn it in to the office but a parent or guardian must pick it up after school gets out. If we have students who are getting office referrals for cell phones past the three strikes than often we will ask for parent meetings and look to place students on Phone Technology Contracts until the behavior can be curbed.
Thank you for any help you can provide that encourages students to keep their phones away during classtime!
